The Experience
A long drive curls through ancient trees to reveal an elegant 19th-century home in warm local stone with a terrace made for long, lazy lunches or evening drinks. Inside, you’ll find a large kitchen with a grand oak table, and a smart sitting room with a huge fireplace and flagstone floors.
Bedrooms are stylish and generous – all have lovely views. Bathrooms are immaculate, most are en suite (one double shares a bathroom with a twin – perfect for families with small children). A pool, tucked into the lawn, is bordered by a potager, greenhouse and friendly hens in a coop. Everything has been thought of: a concierge service, restaurant-standard meals on request, and plenty of crockery and kit for celebratory suppers.
Kids will love the woods and the chooks; grown-ups will revel in the space, serenity and charm of this stylish retreat. If you’re a larger party you can also take a lovely barn and sleep up to 20, plus two more in extra beds.

Location
The neighbourhood
The local village (10-minute walk) has bakeries, grocers, a pharmacy and medical centre, bars for coffees/drinks and a weekly market every Monday. Try traditional French cuisine at La P'tite Factory or Chez Julien in nearby Paunat (8km), set in the grounds of an abbey. Kids will love the treetop adventures at Vergt Aventures (21km). Châteaux, museums, gardens and grottoes nearby.
Local points of interest from Jessica
- La Chartreuse des Ormeaux is just a 3-minute walk from Sainte-Alvère, a charming village known for its authentic atmosphere and local life. It has everything you need during your stay including 2 bakeries, a grocery store, a cosy bar and 2 restaurants.
- We're close to the picturesque villages of Paunat, home to an impressive abbey and a gourmet restaurant, and Limeuil, a Plus Beaux Villages de France with panoramic gardens and a charming medieval heart.
- History lovers will enjoy visiting the Musée Napoléon in Cendrieux, with fascinating memorabilia from the Napoleonic era. There are also numerous châteaux nearby such as Château de Beynac, Château de Castelnaud, and Château des Milandes.
- Nature enthusiasts can take advantage of the many hiking and cycling trails that criss-cross the surrounding countryside, offering peaceful routes through forests, meadows, and hilltop views.
- Whether you're looking for local gastronomy, historical discovery, or outdoor adventures, the Dordogne around Sainte-Alvère has something for everyone – and it’s all at your doorstep.
