The Experience
Isabelle’s restoration of this old farmhouse – in a wooded valley near Tourtoirac – is inspired by her love of the Dordogne and of rusticity, with dollops of fun and fantasy. You feel cocooned indoors: by wood of all persuasions, neutral colours, recycled terracotta and rough-hewn stone. There are wicker sofas by the big stone fireplace, baskets full of games; furniture fashioned out of old farm tools (a collection to visit too); curiosities and quirky adaptations everywhere – but nothing jars and it’s comfortable and practical. The kitchen-with-everything has a friendly big table, a sink hewn out of honey-coloured stone. Bedrooms aren’t huge but are seductively rustic – the suite under the rafters, gloriously so. It runs practically the length of the house: twin beds at one end and up a few stairs at the other, the double; its bathroom behind a curtain and beams. Each bathroom has a walk-in shower; carved stone alongside white porcelain. Outdoors all is simply lovely: there’s four hectares of garden to explore, the pool, the help-yourself vegetable and herb garden, the eating/sitting space under the barn… what more could you want?

La Ferme DÁuracanie will live in our memories forever. Marie-Isabelle had thought of everything to make our stay not only comfortable but also uplifting and aesthetically pleasing. As 4 ladies of a certain age our stay was one of friendship and celebration and a pleasing interlude away from our daily lives. We came away refreshed and inspired. We loved the historic towns and monuments, especially Cadouin Abbey, Sarlat, Lascaux caves, Tourtoira. Hautefort where the Auberge du Parc made the best Omelette aux cepes. We hope to return and are so grateful to Marie-Isabelle for her care and kindness

A simply stunning property in a quiet location, La Ferme d'Araucanie played host to our annual family gathering for a few sublime weeks and was never found lacking. The property description was, if anything, understated, the attention to detail and stylish appointment provided accomodation that was a pleasure to be around and the quality of the facilities, all functional and well maintained ensured that we were settled and 'on holiday' from the moment we were unpacked. Throughout our period there was regular but discreet attendance on the pool and the gardens leaving us just to enjoy !

We so loved La Ferme. Marie-Isabelle is such a personable and caring hostess. From a once neglected farmhouse, she has successfully created a wonderfully pleasing and comfortable holiday home. Her insistence on local traditional building techniques and her love of natural materials and texture makes this a very special place to stay. I particularly loved the scent from the old fireplace and the prevalence of wood, interesting books and, outside, home-grown fruit and vegetables. Hugely relaxing.

An oasis of beauty and peace. A week was absolutely not enough. From dawn to dusk the house and garden is difficult to leave and when the stars come out…impossible! Marie-Isabelle has poured her heart and soul into creating an exquisite home with incredible attention to detail. The small and perfectly formed kitchen has everything you need to create delicious market ‘foraged’ food and the bedrooms are sumptuous and the perfect retreat for the end of the day. Its location is perfect for exploring the local area by foot, bike and car. An absolute gem.
