The Experience

This smart manor tucked in a tiny hamlet has bags of character, an indoor farmhouse-style kitchen, a well-equipped outdoor kitchen, and a Moroccan-inspired courtyard. It’s the perfect setup for convivial outdoor suppers, cooked by owners Ian and Hugh or a local chef; they can arrange wine-tastings and cakes for special occasions.

Everything has been planned to perfection: a pool, hot tub and mezzanine gym plus quiet spaces to retreat with a book. There are three ground floor en suite bedrooms (two doubles, one twin/double) plus a guest cottage with a double en suite bedroom on the first floor, all individually styled and looking over the pretty gardens. The master has its own private terrace. Chase the sun or the shade around the tree-sprinkled five acres, set up the barbecue, sip an aperitif and plan tomorrow’s adventure.

The Dordogne is at your feet: visit châteaux and picturesque villages, shop for delicious local produce at Ribérac’s lively market, lake swim at La Jemaye. The closest restaurant is 2km.

Reviews

Le Manoir Des Fouilloux is a beautiful traditional Périgourdine home which has been tastefully designed by the owners so you can spend a perfect holiday with friends or family. There is so much to do on site which is beautifully presented and easily accessible. The views are stunning and the tranquility of the location guarantees a restful time away from the humdrum.

Mohit, London

Had an incredible one week at Le Manoir Des Fouilloux with our friends. Ian and Hugh were the perfect hosts and really appreciated all the suggestions and recommendations for restaurants and activities around the area. Whether it was running every morning to Aubeterre and having a coffee and croissant at the boulangerie there to lazing around the pool, we had an incredible and comfortable stay. Really enjoyed cooking in the outdoor kitchen area in the Moroccan courtyard to being served burgers one evening. Thank you for your hospitality.

Edward, High Wycombe

If you are wanting a house with charm and character at the same time as feeling like a comfort blanket made of everything that just makes the world right, you need not look further. This was our third time with Ian and Hugh and for good reason. This time there was no need to explore the locale and apart from the daily pilgrimage to one of Saint-Aulaye’s two boulangeries (oh the hardship) we barely moved from the comfort of the pool and other than the hourly baste of factor 30, I barely moved at all!! Ian, Hugh and Yin were the epitome of sublime holidaying and next time won’t be soon enough!!

Gary, Brighton

With my hand on my heart, this is only the best house stay we have had the pleasure of - and we are frequent visitors to France. This reason is this is an incredible home, rather than just a holiday let. The high spec feels like a 5* hotel and the facilities exceed expectations in every way. The real bonus are the hosts Ian and Hugh and their lovely dog Stanley. They will leave you to be as private as you wish, or, as we did, we embraced their warmth to be part of our holiday - they hosted us for dinner one evening which was the highlight, as well as the visit of an incredible massesuse!

Andrea, Bury St. Edmunds

The Manoir is just the most fabulous place for a relaxing holiday, the house and gardens are beautiful. The house extremely comfortable with everything you could want - 4 big double, ensuite rooms and two kitchens! Amazing. The pool is fabulous. There is lots of interest within the local area, and Bergerac, Bordeaux and St Emillion are under an hour away. Added to all this Ian and Hugh are brilliant and charming hosts. I should keep all of this a secret really!

Location

The neighbourhood

The local town, St Aulaye is 2km and great for restaurants, cafés, a pizzeria, boulangerie, bank and supermarket. Or hire kayaks and cruise down the river. Ribérac (20km) hosts one of the biggest and best food markets in the region every Friday. Wine lovers should visit Saint-Émilion and Bergerac – both less than an hour by car. Drive 15 minutes to pretty Aubeterre, a Plus Beaux Villages.

Introducing

Ian Kenworthy

Ian, whose career was in high-end hospitality, and Hugh, a retired NHS director, are warm, friendly and open-hearted hosts who have spent years teasing the manor back to life and making it ready for guests to enjoy. They live in a separate cottage and will be involved in your stay as much or as little as you wish. They have a gorgeous dog, Stanley, who you'll also meet.
