The Experience
There’s plenty of space with four large communal rooms, terraces and outdoor dining areas. The kitchen/dining room with its huge stone fireplace, oak table and all the cooking kit you, or a private chef, might need is at the heart of it all. Just a few steps away is one of the terraces overlooking the pool and garden – a shady spot for lunch. Thick stone walls keep the sitting rooms cool in summer and there are games, books and entertainment for the odd inclement day.
Outdoors find an acre of stunning garden, secure and all yours with a heated saltwater swimming pool, plenty of places to sit or eat, comfortable sun beds, table tennis and a choice of barbecues for long evenings of convivial fun and good food. The tower is a grand spot for escapees with long views over the valley.
Bedrooms are spread across the three floors: all are very comfortable with crisp cotton sheets and their own shower rooms – one has a claw foot bath.

Paul & Charlotte were exquisite hosts pre our arrival and during our stay, they went above and beyond, booking restaurants for us & recommending a private chef. The house itself is stunning with every detail thought of with a very well appointed kitchen, the most comfortable of beds and lots of games and activities to keep everyone entertained. the views from the garden across the valley are stunning and offer the perfect place to watch magnificent sunsets. It truly is a very special place

Maison Montruf is to put it simply - a paradise. A fantastic building in a wonderful location, with elegant appointments and amenities throughout. But what makes it so special are the owners Paul and Charlotte who are not only knowledgable about the area but also are willing to help out with any issue no matter how small; always with kindness, charm and wit. Thoroughly recommended and repeat visits from us very likely!

We have just returned from a fabulous week at Maison Montruf. Paul and Charlotte are the most welcoming and helpful hosts you could wish for. The villa is in a stunning location, with great views across the valley. The villa is perfect - spacious, clean and luxuriously equipped, a truly wonderful place to stay. The pool is also really lovely, well maintained, with great views and kept at a great temperature. And dont forget the garden - really beautiful! Thank you for a memorable holiday.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest filled with wildlife and there are marked trails for walkers. You're just a short walk from the river (hire canoes and bikes locally) and 3kms from the village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (classified as one of the Most Beautiful in France) with lots of good restaurants. Montignac and the Lascaux caves are a 15-min drive
Local points of interest from Charlotte & Paul Bransbury-Harris
- Centrally located in the Périgord Noir most of the “must see / do” attractions and towns are within an hour’s drive from the house. For the active there is a fantastic choice of walks and cycle routes and canoe hire companies are just a 10 min drive away.
- If relaxation is what you prefer then the pool and large terrace is the perfect place to recharge your batteries. The view across the valley is stunning and the sunsets are truly magnificent.
- There are no hidden extras. WIFI, UK TV and Netflix, cotton bed linen, bath and pool towels are all included as are store cupboard essentials. We know this is one of the most important weeks of your year and want to make it as wonderful as possible.
- The house and gated grounds are private but not remote. St Léon is just 3 kms away with a wide choice of places to dine, from riverside cafés to fine dining at “Le Petit Léon”. Our local boulangerie is less than a 5 min drive, or 30 min walk away.
- The house has a limited rental period because for the rest of the year it is our home. High quality, modern appliances, original artwork, antiques and curios elevates Maison Montruf to more than a Gite, it’s a home from home for your holiday.

Introducing
Charlotte & Paul Bransbury-Harris
Charlotte and Paul will be there to greet you along with their two flat-coated retrievers, Monty and Rufus. They bought the property in 2018 and moved here permanently from Oxfordshire. They're now happily integrating with locals from the area and can give good advice about where to go and what to do. They're just there if you need them and will leave you a welcome hamper, but will otherwise leave you be.
We (a multi-generational bunch) had a wonderful time at Maison Montruf. The house is fabulous, the pool is divine, we all fell in love with Monty and Rufus, and Paul and Charlotte could not have been more attentive, caring and helpful as hosts, wanting us to have as good a stay as possible. It was a privilege to be able to stay in such a house in such a beautiful setting for two weeks in the height of summer. The local area is great as well. Saint Leon has some lovely restaurants and a couple of decent ice cream parlours to boot. Caves, canoeing, a top bakery etc all added to the hols…
