The Experience
Families in search of a no-fuss French holiday will love this child-centric barn above the pretty village of St Pompon. There’s masses of kit for children of all ages; indoors all is bright, airy and designed for easy living; outside there’s stacks of space to play and a large, fenced pool. The Tanswells set out to create a kids’ paradise and their renovation of an old tobacco barn fits the bill perfectly. There’s a large ground floor living area with white walls, rugs on pale tiles, a wood-burner, big squashy sofa, wooden dining table and chairs and French doors leading to shaded terraces. Two well-planned kitchens have all you need. Attractive, compact bedrooms have striped or gingham curtains, wooden or wrought iron beds, sloping ceilings, low windows. Bathrooms aren’t huge but are pristine and practical. Spoil yourselves and arrange to have a meal cooked for you – great after a day’s canoeing! There are bikes to hire, adventure parks, castles and caves to visit – that’s if the kids ever get off the trampoline, swing, seesaw, or away from the pool…

We rented both houses for one family. Wonderful setting, close to a charming sleepy village with basic shops and restaurants, we went "La Forge" and loved it. Perfect place for families with children. Lovely safe pool and house were equipped with all sorts of useful toys, baby chair etc. Nicely decorated throughout. Very helpful with a minor technical glitch due to temporary poor area reception. Downstairs is connected but can shut door if one party needs a siesta or private time! Will definitely recommend. Thank you!

Fantastic home for families. Everything was perfect for young children. It felt both safe for them, and great fun. This all made it very relaxing as parents. The house was really well equipped. The pool was fantastic. Information provided was very comprehensive and again well tailored for families with young children.

Very attractive villa and tastefully decorated. Large grounds around the house to play football etc. The village was also very cute and a good area for canoeing or hiking.

It's difficult to imagine a better place to stay if you're looking for both a relaxing and stimulating family holiday. Luxury in the form of a beautiful and fantastically well-equipped cottage, with a fabulous swimming pool and acres of space for children to play. Trampoline, slides, sandpit basketball and football are just some of the attractions onsite to entertain the children - although the swimming pool is probably enough. Within about 30 minutes, there are amazing places to visit: castles, prehistoric caves, canoeing down the river and beautiful villages are just some of the highlights.

- As soon as you book with us we will send you a link to an on-line information pack (hard copy in the gites) so that you can get excited about your holiday and begin to plan your holiday in advance. Trips, eating, health, activities are all included.
- Sol du Mazel is situated in a most beautiful, quiet rural setting, yet it is close enough to the village to take a morning stroll down the age old footpath to the local boulangerie for fresh croissants.
- Kayaking on the Dordogne is very popular with tours that allow you to start upstream and be collected hours later downstream. You could start in the amazing town of Castlenaud where three fairytale castles stand guard over the river beaches.
- Domme is the enchanting medieval market town which overlooks the river as it bends through the rich landscape below, explore the caves or take the miniature train around the town.
- La Roque-Gageac, on the northern shore is described as 'outrageously picturesque' and has an artist studio where you can certainly bargain to get a good deal on a beautiful original watercolour.
- From the end of June to the end of August every Saturday evening the village square and road is taken over by the ‘Marché Gourmand Nocturne’ which can best be described as a street party where everyone is welcome and all sorts of food and drink are on tap

Soul du Mazel is a beautiful spot - perfect for two sharing families. There is so much space surrounding the house for the children to roam around in. The pool area is fantastic. We loved the views across the valley from the veranda and the walk to the boulangerie in the very pretty Saint Pompont. The house is very well equipped and has everything you could possibly need. The Dordogne river is fifteen minutes’ away for the most spectacular canoeing past five chateaux and we enjoyed exploring the beautiful Sarlat too. We had a wonderful stay and would thoroughly recommend this house!
