The Experience

Vineyards surround the Duhamels’ restored 15th-century Girondine home and Bruno is keen to show you around and share his passion for their organically produced Côtes de Bourg wines. He’s also in charge of breakfasts – honey, fresh orange juice, homemade brioche and jams – served indoors or on the terrace, with uninterrupted views. Dinner, with terroir wine of course, can be arranged; perhaps after visiting Bordeaux, 30 minutes south. Bedrooms are spotless and spacious – no frills, no surprises! – with gleaming new floors and windows, and modern bathrooms. It’s peaceful here, with lovely walks through the vines.

Reviews

Our stay at Chateau l'Hospital was perfect. The house is beautifully restored and the rooms are excellent. Christine cooked us a wonderful evening meal and generously offered several of the vineyard's very good organic wines to try. We will certainly go back there. We highly recommend this lovely place.

This is exactly the place we were looking for! Thank you Sawday for this precious jewel of authenticity. Located in the middle of the vines, quiet and beautiful, far from the busy city noise. To top it all, Christine and Bruno are wonderful hosts, knowledgeable and welcoming. Sharing their passion for the region and wines, we had a memorable tasting! Fabulous experience, wish we could go back again and again!

Second year running now for the wonderful Chateau L'Hospital. We were greeted like old friends and treated to a tasting with Bruno. Once again, informative, unpretentious and good advice as to what to drink when and how long to keep before opening. We talked about weather conditions, the latest 'good years' and what to look out for on our travels. Wine tasting continued in the kitchen whilst Christine cooked a delicious 4 course meal. And of course, wine with the meal was superb. The bedrooms are excellent too so I highly recommend this lovely place. Thanks Christine & Bruno we will be back!!

Friendly, intelligent and delightful couple whose enthusiasm for wine making and the healthy lifestyle shines out. Bruno's tour of his chais was informative and interesting (in excellent English) and with questions answered enthusiastically. The modernised accommodation was spacious and spotless, breakfast was healthy and plentiful. Christine's evening meals (also stayed 15/6) were delicious with the included benefit of sampling a choice of their organic wines. We bought some, we would recommend this glorious vineyard location to friends, we hope to return in the future.

Mark, Wedmore

Travelling with a fellow wine lover we stayed one night at this lovely accommodation. We were met by Bruno who showed us round the vineyard and immediately were struck by his passion and honesty about wine. Sampling directly from tanks or barrels followed by an informal tasting in their kitchen made for a memorable experience. Dinner cooked by Christine was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The room I had was fabulous and spacious. Breakfast was great too cooked by Bruno. Thoroughly recommend this place if you like your wine but not too pretentious about it! Thanks Christine & Bruno.
