The Experience

Long, idle days can be spent on the terrace, admiring the views, cooling off in the infinity pool, dozing on a comfy lounger under an umbrella, or firing up the big gas barbecue and enjoying al fresco lunches and suppers with tempting local wines. The kitchen is well set up, with all the kit you need, plenty of basics for cooking and a handy utility room with an extra wine/beer fridge.

Bedrooms (one downstairs which can be a twin) and two upstairs, are all en suite and have lovely Anne Semonin soaps and lotions. Beds are well dressed, the rooms are light and airy and all have TVs. On rainy days you can watch a film on a big screen up in the mezzanine area, snuggled on a corner sofa.

Children will find a cupboard full of games and will adore splashing in the pool, you can find a farmers’ market on almost every day of the week. Underfloor heating and a wood-burner keep you cosy on chilly days; thick walls and air conditioning will ensure you stay cool when it’s hot.

Reviews

In my daydreams, I picture myself relaxing on one of the squishy sun loungers by the pool, a cool drink in my hand, looking over the water out towards the vines and the huge expanse of blue skies. I have been shopping at a local market and picked up vegetables and cheeses for supper, and tomorrow a wine tour guide is coming to pick me up and take me on a tour of some châteaux... heavenly.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are some lovely walks from the door, through the vines and down to the forest. The nearest town is 3km, Pellegrue, a bastide town with some interesting historical buildings. It also has a supermarket, bakers, a bar and tourist office. Duras is 12 minutes and has a family-friendly restaurant plus a good butcher. You're surrounded by vineyards producing Bordeaux wines, St Emilion is 40 mins.

Local points of interest from Kristel Thiange

  • Night markets are the absolute highlight of the summer months. Come and stroll between the stands of local artisans and producers and enjoy a festive and gourmet atmosphere with live music, dancing and regular fireworks displays.
  • Peace and relaxation in abundance. Enjoy relaxing in front of the private infinity pool looking over uninterrupted views over the vineyard down to the forest. Spot roe deer, wild boar and the local bird life from the terrace or feel free to go for a walk.
  • Food markets are available in various local villages and some further afield, every day of the week. If you enjoy eating seasonal fresh produce you can't miss it. You can also find caviar, truffle, duck and foie gras, just to name some French specialties.
  • The region is famous for its wine and for good reason. Walk the cobblestone streets of Saint Emilion for a wine tasting or a tour of its history. If a different region in particular interests you we can arrange guided tour.
  • France is famous for its gastronomic experience. There are at least a dozen restaurants on the Michelin Guide in the area, many of which we can recommend. Or we can arrange a private chef to come to the house.
  • There is the option of many day trips with destinations that wind you through the beautiful landscape. For a beach day one can go to Arcachon, the UNESCO heritage city of Bordeaux, golf days at Vigiers or canoeing down the Dordogne river just to name a few.
