The Experience
Bastide towns – Monflanquin, Monpazier, Villereal – awash with medieval buildings and foodie markets overflowing with pâté, truffles, walnuts, cheeses and fine wines are all within easy reach. Drive into Monflanquin for supper when it’s all illuminated and twinkly; there are plenty of places to eat or try Le Caillau restaurant set in a Cahors vineyard.
Your handsome stone house is well-equipped and comfortable with a wood-burner in the open-plan living room and a neat kitchen. Sit out on the covered veranda, the views are glorious.
Laze by the pool, walk through meadows and woodland, soak up the peace from under the ancient oak tree. Lindsay and Tim are next door and with a bit of notice can book up yoga, meditation and massage, art classes or a restaurant table – they’ll even drive you there and back. And you’ll arrive to a generous hamper with stuff for breakfast.

Idyllic spot in the Lot et Garonne. The house is very comfortable with all the things you need for a fun holiday. The swimming pool is lovely. Lindsay and Tim are marvellous hosts, always happy to help out and advise. The location is rural but within a short drive of some lovely medieval towns. Fabulous restaurants in Villeréal and monflanquin. Top French patisserie too. The birdsong around the house is marvellous- so many rare and beautiful birds in the surrounding woods and fields. Gorgeous wildflower meadows with orchids round the back of the house.

Tim and Lindsay made us feel very welcome at their beautifully situated House in the Field. It is quiet and peaceful and we were there for a real rest and relax holiday. We hit unusually bad weather for the time of year but it didn’t stop us having a lovely holiday, walking in the countryside and relishing the occasional outbreaks of sun. Finn and Dave became our walking companions and we left feeling revived and refreshed. Our thanks to Tim and Lindsay for their kindness and friendliness in this lovely corner of France.

We enjoyed a wonderful holiday at 'House in the Field'. This characterful house with its elegant pool and patio, set within a generous garden with rural views is simply stunning. The verandah provides another super special place to sit or dine and watch the bats emerge at night as the sun sets over the fields of sunflowers . Every detail has been thought about here so you can enjoy every moment of your holiday. Our hosts made our holiday really special, taking the time to share a range of suggestions for our family from climbing to canoeing, chateaux by candlelight, markets and so much more!

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is a 15-minute drive from Monflanquin, a pretty 13th century bastide town with masses of well-preserved medieval buildings. Visit the weekly market (Thursdays) in the main square; stock up on pastries and baguettes at the boulangerie; book onto an art class. Time your stay during a medieval weekend – hosted regularly in the summer – when the place comes alive. Another bastide jewel, Monpazier, is a 20-minute drive. Chateau Gavaudun has a fascinating dungeon to explore while Bonaguil and Biron castles are both close by and quieter than the Dordogne castles.
Local points of interest from Lindsay Patterson
- We sit on the border of the popular & busy tourist areas of the Dordogne and Lot et Garonne. Our local town, Monflanquin, is a bastide village of stunning medieval architecture with great restaurants, quaint shops and an amazing ice cream parlour!
- The summer 'night markets' in July /August are not to be missed! On different evenings in local villages, friends and strangers congregate for great French bonhomie to enjoy an array of delicious local produce washed down with good wine and live music!
- There are so many activities on offer in the area, you will be spoilt for choice! Take a scenic walk, visit nearby bastide towns, Chateaux, vineyards or go on a Treetop adventure, go climbing, bowling, abseiling, horseriding, golfing, mini golfing and more
- If Rivers are your thing, go wild swimming, have a river bank picnic, take a scenic boat trip or spend a day canoeing through rocky gorges past stunning villages or take a hot air balloon ride to enjoy the stunning landscape and architecture at its best!
- 'House in the field' offers days of peace and tranquility or fun and laughter...it's up to you, it's your holiday! You can relax around the pool, have a massage, play water polo or croquet, have a BBQ, stargaze and toast marshmallows!
- If you want to be creative during your stay, you can take part in a holiday workshop (painting, cooking, writing, textiles, yoga). These workshops are available in the local area or on site and can be arranged for you subject to dates and availability.

Introducing
Lindsay Patterson
Lindsay and Tim took early retirement and have taken on this place as a project. The house is now ready for guests and they have turned their attention to the barn, where they live with their three rescue dogs. They are very welcoming and will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Where to start? I's difficult to find enough superlatives to describe our stay at the HITF. From the time we arrived (delayed and tired) the kindness and generosity that Lindsay and Tim showed us was wonderful. They were the ideal hosts and neighbours - really helpful and friendly, but never obtrusive. The house, the pool, grounds and views are stunning and gave us the perfect break. Finally, Finn their lovely dog. Sitting on the bench overlooking the house and fields, with Finn dozing nearby, must be one of the most peaceful places in the world. We can't wait to return next year!
