The Experience
Arrive through gates and up a shingle drive, which meanders around to the main entrance of this old stone, blue-shuttered farmhouse. Single-storey and surrounded by gardens, there’s stacks of space: lie on loungers by the pool while the children burn off steam; bask in the views over orchards and fields of sunflowers. Sip a glass of wine on the gorgeous vine-covered terrace as the sun goes down, then gather around the dinner table in the vaulted-ceilinged salle. The kitchen is well equipped, there’s a den with toys, and a snug with sofas and a wood-burner for cosy evenings. Rooms are neutral, with white walls and splashes of colour, floors are tiled and refreshingly cool under foot. Bedrooms are fresh and welcoming with new linen and towels; from the double there are doors opening onto the terrace, and all have views northeast over the gardens; none are en suite, but there’s a smart bathroom, a shower room, and a separate loo. Visit bastide towns, farmers’ markets, Pirate Land for the young ones. St Emilion and Bordeaux are just over an hour away. It’s less than a mile to a shop and restaurants are 10-15 minutes’ drive.

We had a wonderful time at La Cachette! Our kids age 6&8 could run around in the fenced garden, exploring and playing. Pool was very underrated according to the pictures cause it was very luxurious and hours just past by spending time there. Every town or wine yard was 20-40min away. We can heavily suggest that you attend the night markets! We will definitely remember this vacation and the house as top notch. Happy holidays The Hass family from Denmark The happy guest from Denmark

We had a fabulous holiday in La Cachette, a really lovely place. My 3 young girls adored it especially the swings and pool, and lots of space to run around too! It had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Would highly recommend renting La Cachette.

How lovely to return to La Cachette for the second year running in June 2018. It's like returning home! The house is furnished with everything you could possibly need whilst on holiday with all furniture, bed linen etc of top quality. The owners have gone to a lot of trouble to ensure La Cachette is a very comfortable holiday home. The grounds are well maintained & the pool is a most welcome area to sit and while away long, relaxing days. The outside covered terrace is an absolutely fantastic space ensuring you can dine al fresco whatever the weather. We will definitely be returning in 2019.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Lindsay Whitehead
- In July and August the local villages come alive with night markets, where you can sample local freshly cooked food and wines, all while enjoying live music and the warmth of the long summer evenings. Our favourites are Fongrave and Issigeac
- Although the Lot et Garonne is 2hrs from the coast, local river beaches are only 15 minutes drive away, where you can swim, sunbathe, play or simply relax with a picnic in the beautiful surroundings.
- Wine tours to local vineyards can be arranged by prior request, but the most popular is St Emilion, which produces world famous red wine and which is a 45 minute drive away through rolling countryside. There's a train around the town and lovely cafes too.
- There are many great local restaurants but if you fancy something extra special, a short drive to Bordeaux will allow you to sample one of Rick Stein's favourite restaurants, as featured on his most recent weekend breaks series.
- Golf, horse-riding and canoeing are all available locally.
- Cycling is especially popular locally as the area has the rolling landscape of Tuscany - we can arrange local cycle hire, provide maps and also introduce you to the local club which previous guests have enjoyed

Enjoyed a super week at La Cachette; lovely house in a beautiful, peaceful location. Great outings to Bridoire, Montbazillac, Pujols, Eymet and Fongrave and then wonderful afternoons by the pool at La Cachette, which the children loved. The house is really comfortable and has everything you need for a relaxing family summer holiday, including very kind touches like fresh tomatoes, eggs and wine waiting for you upon arrival, just a short drive from Bergerac. Highly recommended.
