The Experience

The owners are next door but you have your own separate entrance and outdoor space, the feel will be very private. The main living area is double height, light and airy with doors to both terraces and gardens – fling these open on hot days and you can drift seamlessly indoors and out. There’s a covered patio for barbecues and eating, even in a downpour, or a wisteria-covered terrace by the (unheated) pool. Over an acre of gardens mean you can always find a secret spot with a book.

A nice country kitchen is roomy with a worktop island and a table big enough for 12, so you can entertain if you like. There are basics for cooking in stock and Bill leaves you a couple of bottles of local wine plus a jar of his homemade marmalade. On cooler days you can light the wood-burner, find lots of books to read, even have a game of bar billiards.

Join walks, stock up at lovely markets, sleep soundly on smooth vintage linen, relish the peace.

Reviews

Bill and Anthea's tranquil, homely hideaway is an antique gem.

Lavinsotte is a beautiful place to wind down and explore rural south-west France. The swimming pool is a very welcome addition! Fabulous gîte with everything you would need and a wonderful host. We hope to return soon!

Tim, Cambridge

Another wonderful visit to Lavinsotte, the perfect escape in the Dordogne with our lovely host Bill. Nestled between the fields and tucked away from the day to day bustle, yet close enough to wonderful medieval fortified towns and bustling towns with plenty to offer.

Tom, Cheltenham

Lavinsotte is a truly wonderful place - nestled in the rolling countryside and so peaceful. The house is full of beautiful antiques and textiles, and everything practical has been thoughtfully considered for guests. There are plenty of lovely local towns and markets to visit and local walks, but we spent a lot of time at the pool relaxing. I would unreservedly recommend this holiday home!

Joanne, Liverpool

Lavinsotte will remain in our hearts and memories forever. A perfect setting amongst the rolling hills and glowing fields of sunflowers, Lavinsotte is a charming French gite in its own 2 acre setting with salt water pool, framed by five cedar trees which overlook the neighbouring farmer’s field. Bill, a convivial host, invited us for drinks one night; otherwise, he’s around with a cheery wave or quick chat. We had a gorgeous holiday there with friends and family. A beautiful part of France.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's quiet because it's remote. The nearest place to stock up (a 15-minute drive) is Villeréal, a 13th-century bastide town with a super outdoor market, several restaurants and bars. Monflanquin is also 15 minutes in the car and is worth exploring for its medieval architecture. You can join Grande Randonnée hiking trails from the door and find a superb restaurant in Lougratte, 7 kms away.

Local points of interest from Bill & Anthea Quick

  • We love living here in the gently rolling hills of the Lot et Garonne which is often referred to as the Tuscany of France. The area is steeped in history and has many beautiful small medieval bastide towns the nearest of which is Villereal.
  • Villereal, is only 10 minutes drive and is listed as "Un des plus beaux villages de France" It is a bustling place with numerous restaurants, bars, supermarket, bakeries,a famous patisserie. and a weekly Saturday market which has been going since 1284
  • With the whole area steeped in history there is plenty to see and do,the Dordogne valley and its chateaux is close by so is Bergerac and its vineyards.Through the summer months there many weekly events including concerts, gourmet markets and brocantes,
  • Nearby there is a tennis court (2km), a tree climbing park with zip wires, horse riding, trotting races,go karting, theme park, water parks, caves, wine tours, canoeing and bike rental.
  • Bergerac airport is only 34km away and is served by numerous UK airports and has several car rental agencies on site. Bordeaux and Toulouse airports are two hours away.

Introducing

Bill & Anthea Quick

Bill and Anthea (both involved in the antiques business, hence the gorgeous furniture) have lived in France since the early 90s and have now retired. They're just next door and are always available to answer questions or give advice. They encourage you to feel at home and to pick herbs from the garden.
