The Experience

There are ten acres of private garden to run wild in; play hide and seek amongst the fruit trees, cricket on the lawn. This old stone farmhouse is set up for summer living and languid days flitting between the sun loungers, the shady summer kitchen and a refreshing dip in the pool.

The contemporary kitchen diner is equipped for keen cooks, with a good coffee machine and big table to gather round. There are plenty of quiet corners to escape to, and shelves packed with books, games and puzzles. Bedrooms are spotless, with crisp white linen, plump pillows and views over open countryside.

Wine lovers can picnic under the vines in Duras and Cocument. The streets of nearby villages are festooned with lights for the night markets – dine on fresh oysters and local cheeses at big communal tables. Seek out pretty medieval castles or freshly baked patisserie, or simply lounge by the pool with a good book.

Reviews

A perfect family retreat set up with children in mind where the owners have thought of everything so you don't have to. It has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' and will offer a memorable stay in sunny SW France amongst the sunflower fields and orchards.

Location

The neighbourhood

Down a little lane surrounded by large private gardens and open country beyond, the house is perfectly peaceful. It's short drive to Beaupuy for freshly baked baguettes and a stroll around the lovely lake. Marmande, 8km, has a train station, food shops and good options for dining out – try L’Ô à la Bouche for local, seasonal bistro cooking. Head to Duras (9km) for wine tastings.

Local points of interest from Alana Range & Adam Ludwig

  • The produce in our region is beautiful. Marmande is the tomato capital of France and this region is known for its stone fruit. Shop local farmers markets (we'll give you a list!), or tour local farms (another list!) to learn about the seasonal harvest.
  • Dune du Pilat is the tallest sand dune in Europe and you can find it an hour and a half away on the Atlantic coast. While it's a longer trip, it is absolutely worth the excursion - otherworldly and remarkable.
  • Southwest wines have a unique history and flavor. Take a vineyard tour in a VW bus of Cave du Marmandais, one of our local vineyards where you'll learn about the process and history from start to finish.
  • Lot-et-Garrone is known for some of the best brocantes (flea markets) in France and because it's a less touristy region, there are some truly authentic and amazing finds. Search for what's happening daily here: https://brocabrac.fr/
  • Have kids? Or love waterslides? Aqualand Agen under an hour away and makes a satisfying daytrip for adventure and thrill-seekers. A wave pool, a lazy-river ride & a series of extreme tube slides will keep you busy, with plenty of picnic space for lunch.
