The Experience
Once the groundskeeper’s house, the ivy-clad cottage has been transformed into a very special family hideaway. It’s got bags of character and charm – with high ceilings and rambling roses up old stone walls, as well as modern comforts and the owner’s artistic flair throughout, this space has a fairytale feel.
Upstairs, the master bedroom is light and airy, with bright windows and a king-size bed, plus a fabulous freestanding bath, two sinks and a dramatic frescoed wall in the spacious en suite. Downstairs, there’s a cosy double with a whimsically painted ceiling, a cheerful twin with pretty linens – perfect for kids – plus a shared shower room.
There’s a cosy sitting room with a reading nook, and a fully equipped kitchen with French windows that open out onto the patio, where you can enjoy long al fresco suppers and catch the last rays as the sun sets.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are cafés, restaurants, a pharmacy and more in Merdrignac (1km). Explore Paimpont's ancient forest (30km), picnic and wild swim at Lac de Guerlédan (50km), wander through pretty Dinan and its riverside port (48km), go bargain hunting in Quévert’s brocantes (45km), swim and hike at Erquy (60km), shop Rennes’ market (60km), sip cider in Saint-Malo (80km), take a cruise from Vannes (83km).
Local points of interest from Anoushka Lewis
- Merdrignac is a small Breton town, with more to it than first meets the eye. The centre of town is host to boulangeries, butchers, flower shops, a local pharmacie, a beauty parlour, hair salons and a superU supermarché.
- Love cycling? Well you’ve come to the right place! France is a cyclist’s heaven. And like everywhere across Brittany, Merdrignac offers an abundance of cycling trails. With the ‘Brocéliande’ being voted number 1 in the area.
- Spend time by exploring one of many walking trails in or near Merdrignac. Like the trail ‘Étang de l'Abbaye’ in Paimpont, on this walk you will cross the forest of Brocéliande, as well as the peat bogs of the Abbey and the Pâtis Vert.
- There are 42 golf courses in or near Brittany. The best 18 hole golf course in Brittany is Golf Bluegreen Pléneuf-Val-André.
- Looking to cool down on a hot summer’s day, why not try one of the many swimming lakes nearby. Starting with Le Lac au Duc, a place for walks and a wonderful natural setting, the Lac au Duc de Taupont is unmissable, with its 250 hectares, located in the municipalities of Ploërmel, Loyat and Taupont.
- At Mont Saint-Michel, for more than 1300 years, great history has been intertwined, in turn, with the personal stories of its monks, inhabitants, pilgrims and visitors.

Introducing
Anoushka Lewis
After 15 years in London, Suffolk-born Anoushka swapped city life for a slower pace in rural France. Having fallen for the Manoir’s elegant charm and wild garden, she signed the papers mid-lockdown and dived straight into a full restoration. Her creativity and flair are abundantly evident everywhere in the house, and her enthusiasm is infectious.
