The Experience

Unlatch your gate to the walled garden, a ‘petit parc’ bursting with shrubs, trees and lush lawns. Dog lovers will fall in love with Edmond, who may well choose to accompany you on a stroll.

As for the three-storey gîte, it sits in the east wing. Its front terrace, screened from the owners’ by abundant greenery, is a perfect summer spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Head for the Saturday market in Morlaix (4km) and bring your spoils back here… to the kitchen with its sparkling pots and crocks, welcome basket, and stylish chandelier. You’ll love the cobbled streets of Morlaix, its colourful half-timbered buildings and its old river-port feel. Head off for white sandy beaches, craggy coves, and many tiny islands to explore.

Top places to eat out? The much-loved Crêperie L’Hermine in Morlaix, and the friendly L’Hôtel de Carantec, with starry tasting menus and a stunning sea view.

I would highly recommend a stay at the Gite au Manoir du Plessis-Quinquis. The gite is set in a beautiful and peaceful garden and has its own outdoor space for dining and a separate secluded, quiet nook, to relax in. The lounge and bedrooms are lovely and comfortable and stylishly decorated. There is a modern well kitted out kitchen and dining space with views out into the garden. The hosts, went out of their way to ensure that we had a pleasant and enjoyable stay.

We loved our stay in this beautifully restored manoir in the countryside a few miles outside Morlaix. Our hosts, Olivier, Eric and Edmond the dog, couldn’t have been more welcoming in their introduction to the house and stunning Dutch/English garden planted with tulips and David Austin roses. The attention to detail throughout the house made our stay relaxing and luxurious. The beds in particular were extremely comfortable! Throughout our stay Eric and Olivier were friendly and solicitous with recommendations of places to eat or to visit in the area. We would certainly rebook this fab place.

The neighbourhood

From the little lane, sweep in to discover a sublime manor house and hamlet set in a patchwork of pastures. A short walk away are a wood, a lake (less than 600 yards from the manor) with ducks and swans, marked pathways... all you hear are the birds. For breakfast's baguettes, pop to the corner shop in Sainte-Sève (a 20-minute walk). Or hop in the car to charming Saint-Martin-des-Champs: it's a five-minute drive.

Eric and Olivier swapped high-pressure jobs in Paris for the slow life in Brittany, opening their doors to guests in 2021. Olivier is a talented gardener inspired by British and Dutch designers, notably Piet Oudolf. Eric, front of house, is a font of knowledge for guests, and both are friendly and helpful. Young Edmond, a Basset ‘fauve de Bretagne’, adds to the welcoming vibe.
