The Experience

A 17th-century presbytery flanked by two houses: a retreat of gîtes at the end of the drive. Not only are the gîtes beautiful and the detailing second to none but the hosts are hospitable, professional and unfailingly generous. Aided by a black cat and a springer spaniel (bring your dog if you want it to be spoiled), Ben and David have created a place of serenity and charm.

The Priory, dating from 1640, oozes history and spreads itself over three floors, with a French hunting lodge of a sitting room, a dining room that seats eight and a fabulous kitchen opening to the garden. The Granary is a family cottage for six; the Hayloft and Stable are boltholes for two, both single storey, the latter a B&B studio. Everyone has private outdoor space and bikes are available for exploring the wonderful countryside around you. A shared pool has an ingenious telescopic shelter that can be opened in fine weather.

Find Breton cider, local honey, jam, fresh baguettes and apple juice waiting for you in these bucolic hideaways.

Reviews

Kergudon calls to anyone who appreciates the tranquillity of authentic Brittany, its history, luscious landscapes and wide open skies. It's a perfect spot for unwinding thanks to the thoughtful touches from Ben and David, who have created individual, cosy retreats with decor that combines discreet elegance and practical comforts. A wonderful rural retreat just 45 minutes from Roscoff and Brest.

John, Wareham, Dorset

We two stayed in the Hayloft for 9 nights. Prior to arrival the information supplied and the communication with the owners was exceptionally good. The Hayloft was excellently fitted out, the bed comfortable and the heating very good - which we were grateful for because of the cold and wet start to the "summer". The grounds were very relaxing and the hosts most helpful. As a base for exploring by car in all directions, the location was just what we were looking for. Nearby, the cycling was relaxed on the byways & exhilarating off-road in the Monts d'Arrée. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Andrea, Bath

We stayed at The Priory for 8 nights in early May - 4 adults, a 3 & 1 year old plus labrador. Ben & David's gite was perfect in every way and gave us a very comfortable base for lazy mornings before we went off exploring in the afternoons. This gite is a stunning building, superbly equipped and beautifully decorated. Needless to say but It was spotlessly clean. We loved the extra treats on arrival - local products such as honey, cider and apple juice. The activities room in a separate building a great bonus if you have older kids in tow! A fabulous place to stay.

Mercedes, Shrewsbury

This property is just stunning, immaculately kept with attention to detail. Comfortable, tasteful and in a beautiful location. We'll done Ben and David! Keep up the good work! Highly recommended.

Helen, Dover, Kent

Granary is a wonderfully well-equipped gite - we easily managed to host a kitchen supper for 3 of us and 3 guests. Great facilities on site - a games room, wellies, bikes and, for those more energetic than ourselves, you can even book a session in the gym with the resident personal trainer (one of the owners!). Outside the location in the Parc Amorique is ideal for walkers and there are beaches not far away for the summer visitors.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on the outskirts of tiny Saint-Cadou in the heart of the Parc Naturel d'Armorique for sublime walks and cycles. There is a little bar in the village, a two-minute walk, which serves food, otherwise Saint-Rivoal has a good selection of restaurants from Easter to September. Sizun has lots of places to eat and drink. Drennec lake is nearby for paddle boarding, kayaking and sandy lake beaches.

Local points of interest from Ben Dickins

  • Kergudon Gîtes are sited in the heart of the Monts D'Arrée in a natural park. As such you are spoiled for choice for walking, cycling or horse-riding routes in stunning scenery including the highest points of Brittany with their breath-taking views.
  • Equidistant from the north, west and south coasts of Brittany, each with their own character and charm, you can choose from long sandy beaches of the Crozon peninsular, the Pink Granite coast to the north or rockier inlets and estuaries of the south.
  • We are 2 kms from the beautiful Lac du Drennec, one of the best fly fishing lakes in France, there is a water sports centre where you can hire kayaks and paddle boards or just enjoy lunch at the fabulous Au Lac bistro overlooking the lake.
  • We are spoiled for interesting villages, towns and cities within easy reach. Brest and Quimper being the largest north and south respectively for those who need an escape from rural Finistere with Locronan, Morlaix, Huelgoat and many others worth a visit.
  • If food's your motivation we're within easy reach of many excellent restaurants, the very traditional Breton creperies and many weekly markets to buy fabulous produce to create your own meals.
  • While a small, rural village St Cadou is surprisingly active for a village of its size boasting a lively dog-friendly pub, boulangerie and active Comité des Fêtes. If you're here when one of the many Fest Noz take place its definitely worth attending!

Introducing

Ben Dickins

Ben, ex-Royal Navy, and David, a fitness instructor, previously lived in London but escaped here (Brittany is what they would love Cornwall to be) and have been running the gîtes and B&B since 2015. They are both very friendly and welcoming and happy to chat.
