The Experience

A late 17th-century farmhouse and its outbuildings have been transformed into two warm and relaxed gîtes – with a third on the way – by the talented Sue and Steve. They’re set in a small hamlet in flat farming country and although it feels remote you’re only 15 minutes from Saint-Malo.

If it’s raining, stoke the wood-burner and find comfy sofas, books, films and board games as well as a big screen TV; when the sun shines you have your own corner in the leafy garden for a barbecue and two bicycles to explore the surrounding countryside.

Find a welcome basket with sparkling wine, eggs, local cheese and bread; there’s a bakery a two-minute walk away and an acclaimed restaurant, Eden Brug, is five minutes. The nearest towns, Châteauneuf and Miniac Morvan, are less than ten minutes by car and have shops, restaurants and markets; cycle the back roads to the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel in an hour.

Reviews

We rented the cottage for two people for a week. This cottage is extremely comfortable, quiet, very pleasant with wood, the decor is neat, the wood stove was super nice and we had a very good New Year's Day there. We really liked the little extras such as the welcome basket too. Thank you for your welcome.

Florette, Lille

We had a lovely cosy winter trip to this beautiful house. Sue and Steve had added seasonal touches, the experience was perfect.

May, Paris

We had a wonderful week at La Binellerie, it is beautiful inside and out. Sue and Steve gave us great advice about local beaches and restaurants and we loved returning each evening to all the home comforts and the lovely garden.

Camilla, London

We very much enjoyed our stay in Le Gentilhommière. The house is beautifully renovated and decorated with great style by the very welcoming hosts, Sue and Steve. The gardens provide privacy and are beautiful, full of flowers. The central location of the gite allowed us to explore this beautiful part of Britanny and we appreciated Sue's recommendations for good restaurants. We hope to come back and stay at the newest addition, La Grange, which is of outstanding quality. Thank you, Sue and Steve for your hospitality.

Annette & Peter, Wassenaar

We stayed in the Gite du Jardin, which is beautifully decorated and furnished. It's super level of comfort and we were more than well looked after by owners Sue and Steve. They have created a beautiful haven and deserve all praise as per previous reviews, for a well run and creative enterprise. We would certainly return.

Jacqueline, London

Had a great week at Sue and Stevens fabulous gite. Elegant and comfortable with beautiful hand made interior features. Hosts are full of useful advice if needed. Plenty to do and see nearby.

Jane, Threapwood

We passed two fabulous weeks in the Gentilhommière. The House was absolutely stunning! Restored with greatest attention to every detail, comfortable and well equipped. The wonderful garden provided us with apples and plums - Sue and Steve really have created a little paradise. Thank you for the wonderful time and your great hospitality!

Carola, Munich

We gave just had an exceptionally enjoyable week in the smaller of the La Binellerie Gites. The Gite was part of a ramarkablly well restored farm, executed over may years by a lovely couple Sue and Stephen Davison. The standard of the restoration is really exceptionall; Stephen was a cabinet maker and Sue has a flair for enhancing the beauty of the restoration. The grounds, including the poplar enhanced entrance, is elegant and tranquil, provideing a restful respite from everyday life. It is well situated to enjoy the many delightd of Brittany. We cannot praise it sufficiently.

David, London

We had a lovely holiday in the beautifully restored farmhouse. Sue and Steve have obviously taken great care to create somewhere very special. There was also the added bonus of having all the practical conveniences on hand that we might need and Sue and Steve were always available for help. The boys loved playing in the garden and on the swing and we really enjoyed getting to know this part of Brittany. Thank you!

Anna, Stroud

We stayed in the Gite de Jardin: it is a beautiful self-catering accommodation, very welcoming, and of which the finitions and furniture were made to measure by the owner: a must! Sue & Steven are very kind and helpful: we strongly recommend a stay in La Binellerie!

Julien, MERIGNAC

A superb gite, comfortable, well equipped and centrally located for where we wanted to visit. Close to St Malo, Dinan and some lovely villages on the Rance. In easy driving distance of great beaches and Mont St Michel. Good restaurants nearby. Our longest trip was to Omaha beach in Normandy which did not seem too far to drive. Great hosts. Wi fi was dodgy when we were there but was repaired before we left.

David, Cambridge

Hi Sue and Steve We really enjoyed our stay in your gite. You had everything just right in the house. We loved the way you restored the house keeping the existing character plus adding modern facilities. Our son loved the wildlife in the garden and the freedom it gave him. The location was perfect as within 30 minutes drive there was so much to see and do. Best of luck with your new renovations. Kind regards Denis

Denis, Dublin

We have been visiting France for many years and this is the best gite we have stayed in. The attention to detail is outstanding and the property, which is immaculate and very well equiped, has been furnished sympathetically. Sue and Steve should be very proud of what they have achieved and we wish them well for the future.

John, mirfield

Friendly, helpful owners (Sue and Steven), and a lovely house in an area close to towns and beaches. You need a car though!

Sav, Hitchin

We had a lovely stay in La Binellerie Gites. Steve and Sue made us feel very welcome The basket of goodies was a lovely touch and very welcome after the journey. The Gite is of the highest standard with everything you could possibly need. The setting is perfect a real escape to the country but with all the area has to offer on the doorstep A real home from home, we would definitely stay here again

Claire, Oxford

We had a wonderful stay at Sue and Steve’s sensational house. They gave us excellent and very memorable recommendations in the local area, including places that were perfect for our son. We are desperate to go and stay again one day! Sue and Steve are wonderful hosts, and they have done an incredible job restoring their fantastic buildings, which are warm, cosy and beautifully decorated.

Henry, London

Simply the best gite we have ever stayed in since booking our holidays through Sawdays. Lovely hosts and beautifully appointed accommodation with every need catered for. Particular favourite: the cool box! Nowhere better for exploring Brittany. Judy and Dawn

Judy, Great Finborough

We had a lovely restful week in the beautiful garden gite. Sue and Steve are friendly, relaxed hosts and on hand with lots of helpful information about the area. Despite some unpredictable weather we were able to enjoy fabulous river and coastal walks and sightseeing in Dinan and Dol de Bretagne. All in all, highly recommended.

Helen and Simon, Chalfont St Peter

Wonderful! We stayed in the smaller gite and loved everything about it! Beautifully converted and thoughtfully furnished to a very high standard. A relaxing sitting area, nicely designed kitchen and lovely en suite bathroom. Not forgetting the private garden sitting area that is a real sun trap. A marvellous holiday - we're coming back next year.

Padraic & Karen, Shotley Bridge Co Durham

We stayed in the smaller gite and it was simply wonderful! A little gem! It is beautifully converted and furnished, and extremely well equipped. The living space is cool and relaxing, the bedroom is generously proportioned and comfortable, while the bathroom and kitchen are excellent. There's a lovely little garden which is a suntrap; great for hot afternoons and a glass or two of rosé! Sue and Steve were marvellous hosts. It was so enjoyable that we're already booked for next year!

There are numerous châteaux and gardens to visit within a half-hour drive, along with the medieval town of Dinan, which has half-timbered houses lining narrow cobbled streets, and the fishing village of Cancale, a must for seafood lovers.

  • La Binellerie, a renovated 17th century Gentilhommière and barns is situated in a peaceful, rural setting, in 1.6h of gardens and woodland. A perfect location for a relaxing holiday with family or friends.
  • Our nearest boulangerie is actually just around the corner! A small bakery which makes artisanal bread twice a week. The boulangerie in Chateauneuf is a 15 min walk, but we do have a couple of bikes for the uses of guests.
  • The nearest supermarket is at Miniac Morvan (10 min drive), which also has an excellent fishmongers, a delicatessen selling local products, and the usual bank, and Post Office. There is a market here every Friday morning.

Introducing

Susan Davison

Sue and Steve live in a little cottage attached to the larger gîte. They’ve lived here since 1996 and have spent much time renovating the properties – it’s a definite labour of love. Sue is originally from Leeds and studied music at the Northern College of Music, later becoming a private piano teacher. Steve works as a cabinetmaker – the cabinets, stairs, doors and windows in the gîtes are all his work – and has specialised in bespoke kitchens in the UK. In their spare time they have a boat and enjoy taking it out on the Rance river.
