The Experience

Steve and Sue have spent years lovingly converting this 17th-century barn, once used to make cider, into this light and spacious space. The huge front doors lead into an airy living area with an impressive, vaulted ceiling – Steve is a master cabinetmaker and has crafted all of the interiors himself.

In the kitchen you’ll find a welcome basket of bread, cheese, eggs, milk, wine and fresh produce from the garden if it’s available. Take breakfast outside on the patio or in your private courtyard – there are sun loungers and a barbecue here too.

There’s wonderful walking and cycling along the river into medieval Dinan and along the coast, or drive 20 minutes to Dinard for great restaurants and some of the best beaches in the area. Cancale, famous for its oysters, is also a 20-minute drive away. Mont St Michel is 30 minutes and Rennes, capital of Brittany, with its parks, gardens and art galleries, is 45.

We could not have asked for a lovelier place: we spent a week in this peaceful heaven and enjoyed every minute of it. The house is skillfully created from a former barn with beautiful handcrafted woodwork and everything you could possibly need is provided. There are various outdoor sitting areas where we enjoyed the sweet smells of jasmin, flowering agapanthus and the sound of sparrows nesting in the old stone walls. And owners Sue and Steve are always at hand for advice or support, supplying us with lovely bread and even a sapling from an admired acer tree. I can fully recommend this place!

La Chapellerie is an absolutely beautiful barn conversion, equipped with everything anyone could possibly need. It has a sunny gravelled patio at the front and more space at the back and a huge grassed area. It's all very peaceful, and there's even a young hare which lollops about. Sue and Steve are always around, if needed, and the house contains information on local restaurants, maps and guidebooks which are very useful. Access to St Malo and loads of other places locally with stunning architecture and lots of different amenities is very easy. Highly recommended.

We have just had 2 weeks at La Chapellerie, Marvellous! Steve and Sue have created a perfect place to stay, both their skills are to be appreciated and enjoyed. The Rance Valley is great for walking, local villages to explore, plus Dinan nearby, there is no need to travel far each day to be delighted. Book and enjoy!

We loved La Chapellerie. It was perfect for our family of grandparents, parents and two small girls. Beautifully and thoughtfully converted and equipped to a very high standard, the house had lots of character, coupled with everything we needed. Our older granddaughter loved the field and especially the swing. The owners were so kind and generous with help and advice. We all had a wonderful holiday and very much hope to return.

La Chapellerie and its setting is simply wonderful! The Barn is beautiful- almost a work of art! and is well decorated, light, spacious, a truly comfortable place to switch off and relax. The garden areas are intimate, with numerous seating areas so you can dine al-fresco and track the sunshine throughout the day! We particularly enjoyed the peace, waking up to the bird song and watching the wildlife. Sue and Steve are really friendly, helpful hosts who gave plenty of info on the surrounding area to visit (lots to see nearby) and great restaurant tips.

We stayed in La Chapellerie, the newest addition to the small group of beautifully converted gîtes of La Binellerie.Sue and Stephen have created an incredibly stylish and comfortable place to ‘come home’ to at the end of the day. They are warm and welcoming hosts and we really appreciated the special touches like fresh flowers from the garden and a really generous welcome basket of local produce. Steve’s amazing craftsmanship using wood from their land, and Sue’s design skills have produced an understated, elegant home from home. Thank you both.

We had the best time at La Chapellerie. The gite is wonderful; superbly decorated, very well equipped, peaceful and comfortable. This doesn’t fully do it justice though, as the skill of Steve’s carpentry and Sue’s interior design make this gite a cut above any other I’ve stayed in. What’s more, Sue and Steve are the perfect hosts.

La Chapellerie is amazing; a beautiful home, ideally located and Sue & Steve are wonderful hosts. After a day of exploring the area it really felt like coming home. The kids enjoyed playing in the garden and we liked the privacy around the house. We had a brilliant time at La Chapellerie and in Brittany.

Dennis, Diemen

We had a fantastic stay for our holiday in this home. The house is really spacious, calm and impeccably clean. It is a beautifully restored property crafted by Steve and so much attention to detail throughout it. You are very close to amenities, beaches and popular tourist attractions. The house was really well resourced including a BBQ and plenty of choices of places to dine! Sue and Steve were really helpful and there to welcome us on arrival and departure. I would highly recommend this as a place to spend your holiday and we would definitely look at coming back in the future.

Fiona, Hurst Green

We have been staying in various places and gites in France since 1987 and this was definitely the best we have ever been in. Furniture and furnishings excellent and the kitchen had as much and more equipment that you would need for a self catering holiday. The sitting areas were very private and Sue and Stephen very welcoming and helpful if restaurants needed booking and for general information. You do need a car to get about but places like Dinan ,St Malo, Cancale and Mont St Michel very easy to reach. A great place to sit and relax and enjoy the wildlife.

Margaret, Doncaster

Wonderful, accommodation of the highest standard with every detail carefully thought out. You feel relaxed from the moment you turn into the driveway and the gite doesn’t disappoint. Plenty of space both inside and out even if fully occupied. Sue & Steve are top rate hosts and will help with anything, albeit they seem to have thought of everything already. Location is superb for exploring this part of Northern Brittany. Everything seemed to be within 10-20mins away from wonderful beaches, beautiful towns and villages, good shopping in St Malo. 5 star place to spend a relaxing holiday.

Ian, Cheltenham

It was a joy to discover this beautifully restored barn. It is a perfect spot to unwind in the blissful, verdant, Breton countryside.

Nicky, Sawday's Inspector

We stayed at the new old domicil "La Chapellerie". We think often of the wunderful days in Britany and of the House of Sue and Steve. We liked it very much to stay in the house and we felt good there! This it's why we want to say "Thank you" again for the good time in La Chapellerie. It was very nice, cozy and incredibly generous. The furniture, the kitchen, the windows and doors and much more was all made by our landlord.

Introducing

Sue & Steve Davison

Sue and Steve live in a little cottage next to their gites. They’ve lived here since 1996 and have spent much time renovating the properties – it’s a definite labour of love. Sue is originally from Leeds and studied music at the Northern College of Music, later becoming a private piano teacher. Steve works as a cabinetmaker – the cabinets, stairs, doors and windows in the gites are all his work – and has specialised in bespoke kitchens in the UK. In their spare time they have a boat and enjoy taking it out on the Rance river.
