The Experience

There’s a lovely quiet feel to the Scorff valley and setting out on foot or on a bike, maybe after a lazy coffee and croissant breakfast, feels wonderful. Coming back to soak in the big outdoor hot tub rounds things off nicely.

You stay in one of two granite cottages, each with French windows bringing in lots of light and with your own hornbeam-hedged garden behind. You’re welcome to wander the main gardens which are beautifully planted and you’ll find local produce like cheese, cakes and biscuits waiting for you in the well-equipped kitchens.

Walk into the local village where there is a good restaurant open Thursdays to Sundays, explore towns and medieval Pontivy; stunning coastal beaches are an hour’s drive for a day out with a picnic, and lake swimming is nearer at the impressive Lac de Guerlédan half an hour away. There are pretty walks along forest trails around the lake too.

Reviews

The perfect holiday hideaway, tucked deep in the verdant hills of central Brittany. It's not far from anything but not close to any tourists either. The new owners are adorable and eager to please. Heaven in a hamlet!

Frances & John, Appleby in Westmorland

Jasmine cottage was the most well equipped and comfortable Gîte you could wish for. With a welcome basket too of regional treats, thank you Aurélie. We relished the peace and quiet of deepest rural Brittany and the lush green countryside where the main sounds were only of birdsong. Using the bird up app we had fun identifying so many different birds. Cycling was a pleasure on the quiet roads and on the towpath along the Nantes to Brest canal. You can ride for miles. The old buildings and flowers in the courtyard were great subject matter for John's painting. A memorable stay.

Jo, Dorking

Well equipped and helpful and friendly owners. We wanted for nothing on this stay. I have used many self catering cottages over the years and Jasmine Cottage was simply superb. Even down to sharp knives so the ones I took with me stayed in my bag. Aurelie lives on the premises and she keeps a low profile, but is always available if you want any advice, help with restaurant recommendations and bookings, supper cooked for you etc. We went to experience the cycling in the immediate area and further afield and weren’t disappointed. We had such a lovely stay and would definitely visit again.

Bob and Janice, Ottawa Ontario Canada

We stayed for one week in Orchid Barn cottage in central/rural Brittany. Aurélie was an outstanding host who was readily available and provided great advice. She even offered warmer jackets when the weather turned colder than we had expected. The cottage was nicely decorated ,comfortable ,and very clean. Kitchen was well equipped to prepare meals with ingredients from local markets in Pontivy and Vannes. The peace and quiet here was great to recharge after touring. local villages central and coastal. We would recommend this cottage to our friends and hope to return ourselves some day.

Sarah, Chard

Set in a peaceful bucolic location, it’s restful and restorative to stay in the Orchid Barn. The cottage is very well equipped, the welcome goodies were delightful, the shower nice and big, and the bed incredibly comfortable. There are so many places to visit within a reasonable drive that we could have done with staying longer. Last, but definitely not least, is the warm welcome we received from Aurélie, who was solicitous without being too much, and for whom nothing was too much trouble. I’m certain this won’t be our only visit!

Location

The neighbourhood

A beautiful rural area, criss-crossed by footpaths and dotted with farms and villages like sleepy Langoëlan three minutes’ drive away and with two good restaurants. Thursday is market day in medieval Guémené-sur-Scorff, a 10-minute drive, with its Roman bath, ruined castle and good restaurants. It’s 25 minutes to the large market town of Pontivy on the Nantes-Brest canal for half-timbered houses.

Local points of interest from Aurelie Loigerot

  • Central location allowing easy access and driving to local villages and towns. Coastal areas within an hour or so drive.
  • Surrounded by beautiful countryside and wildlife, without overlooking neighbours and no passing traffic. Set in a private Hamlet which is tranquil and peaceful. Listen to the birdsong, relax and unwind. A haven for butterflies too!
  • With no light pollution many nights provide a stunning night sky enabling you to see all the major northern hemisphere constellations, and the milky way on clear nights. Also the occasional shooting star to make a wish on.
  • Complimentary welcome hamper full of goodies sourced locally if available. Complimentary toiletries, fresh towels and luxury bedding included.
  • Many local daily markets to browse and barter. Many hidden Brocantes (bric-a-brac & antiques) to explore and pick up bargains and gain some insight into Breton culture and history.
