The Experience

The deep-country house in the pretty village brims with new chintz and old beams. Bedrooms dressed in ivory and white have quilted bedcovers and scatter cushions; sprays of artificial flowers brighten nooks and crannies; and there’s a bathroom behind a curtain.

Little English is spoken but the welcome is so endearing, the generosity so genuine, the food so delicious, that communication is easy. You’ll breakfast in the salon around one big table – dig into homemade jams and raspberry compote, smoked ham, cheese, local honey, breads and pastries. You’re welcome to cook for yourselves too; picnic in the garden when it’s sunny.

Just a few cows on the farm, and the odd tractor passing, but the vegetable garden is handsome and much of the produce ends up on your (delightfully antique) plate. Take slow living seriously and reconnect with nature – go for hikes from the doorsteps, bike to nearby villages and discover off-the-beaten-track France.

Reviews

We stayed at Ferme de Bannay for one night on our way home from the south. Muguette and her family made us so welcome - with a homemade drink and cake on arrival, a few toys out for our baby and the best breakfast of our whole holiday (including a mini serving for our little one!). The room was beautifully decorated in a traditional style and was comfy and cosy. The whole setting was idyllic and we’d definitely stay again. Thank you!

Alice, London

We loved our stay at Ferme de Bannay. Madame and Monsieur could not have been more charming. We had a delicious supper and breakfast a peaceful nights stay after a long drive from Italy. We shall definitely return.

Fiona, Norwich

This is a very nice and charming B&B! Muguette is a great host and is completely concerned about your welfare. She offers great tips on restaurants and Champagne houses. The rooms are impeccable and the breakfast is copious. A perfect stopover when going south!!

Marcel, Rotterdam

We have a delightful weekend stay with Frederique. We stayed with our 2 young children, and she was so warm and kind toward them and did everything to ensure we had a comfortable stay including providing toys and customising meals to suit their age. It was my birthday and Frederique went above and beyond to create a beautiful meal for us, which was well appreciated. The breakfast was also extremely generous and delicious. The house is located in a quiet village and despite the rainy weather we enjoyed walking around in the fresh air and spotting local farm animals. We would happily go back

Melissa, Paris

This B&B is clean and comfortable with old french charm. Frederique speaks very good English and is so welcoming and hospitable, she was so helpful and couldn’t have done more for us when we had questions. We stayed in the Nature and Garden room which is upstairs and had a double and 2 single beds for the 4 of us but be warned if you are tall you may struggle with the beams and small bathtub. Breakfasts are plentiful and delicious. We really enjoyed our stay here, you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but it’s not far from local Champagne houses however you will need a car.

Suzanne, Kent

Muguette, Jean Pierre and Frederique are delightful and charming hosts. Tremendously warm and kind with our young children, a generous and delicious breakfast, and an insider guide to the best local grower-producer Champagnes. What more could you ask for? They kindly offer to help organise a whole range of activities, but are not at all intrusive. A perfect French getaway. Highly recommended.

Stewart, London

An ideal place to relax in a beautiful little old village with a generous and attentive welcome. Homegrown produce for breakfast and table d'hôtes and you'll love discovering the area on foot or by bike, before returning to the cocoon-like, cosy bedrooms, tastefully furnished by Muguette and her family.

Pascale, Sawday's Inspector

What a wonderful place to stay to start our holiday. The hosts were amazing and friendly and the breakfast delicious. We loved the cows and the cat Molly. I would stay here again and for longer as sadly could only stay one night.

Catherine, Ware

Four of us spent two nights here so we could revisit a particular Champagne house. The rooms are comfortable and traditional and the breakfasts generous, with several home-made elements. Madame Curfs is completely charming and could not have done more to make us welcome and provide for our needs. She even designed a bespoke mini-tour of the area for us. We would not hesitate to visit again.

Martin, Rickmansworth

We stayed here for a night and had an excellent, indulgent retreat. Compounds were quiet, rooms charming, and breakfast utterly delicious. Conveniently located within the champagne region---there is a brilliant champagne house just 3 min drive away. Our hosts went out of their way to help us find dinner options on a Monday evening, which can sometimes be tricky. Highly recommended.

Li, Singapore

This was the 2nd time we have stayed here, really welcoming people and the breakfasts are wonderful. They thoughtfully arranged a champagne tour and tasting at really short notice; we had a brilliant time and came away armed with some bottles! Lovely village, quirky rooms, really good value for money.

caroline, York

Very welcoming b and b. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed are stay and would recommend it to others. The village itself is small and picturesque and about a 10 minute drive from Montmort where we had a very good evening meal.

diana, villars sur ollon

Very tranquil setting in a tiny village with plenty of scope for interesting walks in the neighbouring area. We had dinner on one night which was beautifully cooked and presented with excellent champagne. Neil and Linda Christie

Verry romantic room and a super welcome.A delicious supper with a fine wine. The garden is like a fairy tale. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Curfs. Joris & Gabi from Belgium

My boyfriend and i stayed with Maguette and her family for 2 nights and had a great experience. We would not have found the house without our sat nav, which in a way was great, because it meant it was fairly remote and very relaxing. We visited Sezanne and Epernay for day trips and ate locally both nights. It was a great base to explore the beautiful area. We will be recommending and probably coming back. Thank you!

Emily

We have stayed with the Curfs five times now on our way to the Alps and on trips to Spain. They have always given our family a wonderful welcome, good food and a comfortable bed. Bannay is a quiet and tiny village - the only noises to disturbed us were the owls and the cows.

Alan

We stayed for two nights on our tour of France and Spain. There were three of us so we had two rooms in the main house. they were furnished in a rural style and found them comfortable but a little dark. One room with the bath behind the curtain for a man to use the toilet you had to duck your head. We had one evening meal cooked by Mme Curfs which was delicious. Breakfasts were typically French and delightful. Despite the language barrier the Curfs made us very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed the area and would recommend the Cave tour of Moet Chandon
