The Experience

The house has 13th-century roots and a tranquil feel with high, beamed ceilings, some exposed stone walls and wooden or tiled floors. Traditional French furnishings are comfortable and smart, but the vibe is friendly and the owner is a generous soul so you’ll feel very much at home. On warm days you can eat out in the courtyard, use a super summer kitchen or the pizza oven, cool off in the serene pool, find a quiet spot to read a book.

Breakfast brings freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs cooked to your liking, locally sourced jams, fresh breads from the bakery, fruit salad from the market, sometimes cakes and crêpes. A guest sitting room is yours but big bedrooms (all on the first floor) have extra seating, two face the church and one looks over the patio and pool, all have stylish en suite bathrooms.

Step out to no fewer than seven restaurants, hire bikes or canoes, hike in the stunning gorge or clamber along the via ferrata.

Reviews

Angèle is charming, easy to talk to and really cares about her guests. She has a lovely place here, so peaceful, yet right in the heart of this interesting village. The bedrooms look sumptuously comfortable and are really spacious whilst the patio swimming pool would be a lovely place to relax and read between dips.

A real find. The house is stunning. Our room was beautiful and tastefully furnished with great attention to detail. We could have spent all of our time by the exquisite pool but the are has so much to offer. Collias is a sweet village but there’s also Uzes, Avignon and Pont du Gard all nearby. Angele is a wonderful host, always keen to help and with her lovely daily cakes. She runs this place impressively on her own for someone so young. We are already planning our return.

Location

The neighbourhood

The village restaurants range from crêpes and burgers to smarter food at the Hotel Château de Collias, plus a bakery and a hairdressers. Medieval Uzès is a 15-minute drive, Roman Nîmes just over 30 mins and Arles 50. Most guests come for the countryside and the wonderful walking and cycling. Hire a canoe and drift down the river Gardon to stunning Pont du Gard, return by bus.

Local points of interest from Angèle Lebleu

  • The patio at Collias dates back to the 13th century, when it was home to monks.
  • There are some excellent restaurants in the village, my favorites being: l'Oxalys (bistronomic restaurant 2 minutes' walk from the house) and Les Mets Chantent (delicious intuitive cuisine 5 minutes' walk from the house).
  • Collias is an excellent base for exploring the region, as it's one of the only villages where the Gardon river bathing areas are so close to the village center. From the house, the bathing areas are less than 5 minutes' walk away.
  • These gorges offer breathtaking scenery, perfect for hiking, canoeing and observing the local wildlife, especially beavers.
  • Pont du Gard: Just a few kilometers away, this majestic Roman aqueduct is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see. It offers spectacular views and surrounding hiking trails.

Introducing

Angèle Lebleu

Young and lovely Angèle has a background in hospitality – in a palace near St Tropez and a year spent in Australia. The house, which belongs to her parents, is Angèle's first foray into running her own chambre d'hôtes, a long-held dream. She clearly adores meeting people and looks after them with aplomb.
