The Experience

The view from the pool leaves you silent, the timeless Cévennes hills rolling away into the distance. Les Planas is a great family house with six bunks as well as four double rooms and various sitting spaces. Built on several levels and standing quietly in its lovely terraced garden, it has been beautifully restored by the second generation of the Galgey family, without spoiling the atmosphere. Inside, it is delightfully light and white with the odd stone wall and terracotta floor. The super open-plan kitchen-diner has space, all the equipment you need, pretty pottery and prints and a door to the covered veranda whence you can wander into the garden with your mug of coffee. Bedrooms are excellent, with soft-coloured French quilts and lots of storage; all separated by landings and steps; the gorgeous master bedroom has its own balcony overlooking the garden, stripped pine doors and a superb new bathroom. There’s lots to do here for both young and less young – walk, climb, cycle, swim in the heated pool; visit the superb bamboo forest in Anduze or Roman Nîmes, take the steam train up to St Jean du Gard – children love it – and nothing is very far.

Reviews

Sophie, Sevenoaks

We had a really lovely week at Les Planas The accommodation was wonderful....beautiful setting, gorgeous garden, comfortable beds, spotlessly clean bathrooms, really well equipped kitchen. We loved the pool, table tennis, boules and barbecuing. All of the information in the book was great too. We loved the restaurant set in the old railway station, canoing under the Pont du Gard, walking from the house up to the top of one of the Damoiselles. We also flung ourselves down the slides at the Aquaforest and felt young again! One downside: noisy hunting dogs nearby.

Such a gorgeous holiday house. It is an easy walk to a pretty village with bakery for breakfast croissants. The swimming pool is great with stunning views and the most comfortable loungers . The house is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished throughout. Air conditioning & comfort. We stayed without children and enjoyed the tranquillity and calm.

Staying at Les Planas is a slice of luxury. Everything you need has been anticipated. The pool has the most glorious outlook over the valley to the mountains beyond. The sunloungers are the most comfortable I’ve ever enjoyed and there’s also a little lounge area there too, ideal for cocktail hour. We also really loved the hammock under the grapevine, perfect for a snooze in the shade. There are plenty of games for all ages too, handy for those who prefer to be more active. We had a ping pong tournament! Really nice modern kitchen/bathrooms were an additional comfort.

We spent a wonderful week at Sarah and Will's beautiful house up in the hills. The house is well equipped - every detail has been thought of - and all the little touches make it feel super homely - the perfect ingredients for a relaxing and fun family holiday. We stayed with another family; the house is the perfect set up for two families - with separate areas for each family to sleep and lovely spacious communal spaces to spend time together. There's masses to do in the area if you can drag yourself away from the pool or the terraces at Les Planas. The info book has all you need to know.

Les Planas is a wonderful holiday house. It’s in a great location within easy walk to a pretty village and has a wonderful swimming pool with stunning views and comfy sunlougers. Perfect both for those with or without children. The house is beautifully furnished with a very well equipped kitchen and plenty of eating space. The house easily accommodated three families. All the bedrooms are tastefully decorated with air conditioning & comfy beds. We had a wonderful family holiday and would highly recommend this special property.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Will & Sarah Galgey

  • The house is located in the beautiful rural village, Monoblet, with amazing views of the Cevennes, France's largest regional park of some 200,000 acres. Ideal for walking, canoeing, cycling & central to many natural beauty spots and attractions.
  • Within a 3 min walk from the house, there is a bakery, post office, bar, playground and a riding school.
  • Nearby towns of St Hippolyte-Du-Fort (8kms) and Anduze (13 kms) have good shopping facilities, open-air markets, cafes, banks, bars, restaurants as well as bike hire. Tennis courts, canoeing, pony trekking, river swimming, go-carting & golf are close by.
  • Other attractions include some splendid caves - Grotte des Demoiselles and a steam train that runs regularly up the valley from Anduze to St Jean-du-Gard. The Bambouseraie and the Haribo Museum are also worth a visit.
  • Further afield is Uzes with beautiful architecture. Explore little alleys & roads off the centre. If possible, go twice, once on a Saturday during the market & again when the market doesn't fill every inch of the town & you'll see it for all its glory.
  • Not forgetting the beautiful town of Sommieres, Aigues-Mortes, Pont du Gard, Cirque de Navacelles, Nimes & Montpellier.
