The Experience

On Sundays your gracious hosts Stephane and Sabrina serve aperitifs and snacks in the atrium – it’s a convivial atmosphere, great for a get-together with loved ones. The huge garden is filled with roses and mulberry trees; the leaves fed silkworms back when this was a working farm.

Each gîte has a spacious sitting room with books and games and a well-equipped kitchen with new coffee machines. Eat outdoors on the terrace – bring a crowd and La Bergerie has the largest with room for everyone to eat together. Find a bottle of local wine, pâté and cheese waiting for you.

There’s a splendid pool for laps or lounging and a well-stocked honesty bar. Beyond the formal lawns and rose borders, find yourself in fields of saffron – take home a jar of their delicious honey. Borrow bikes and ride on quiet lanes to the village of Lussan, one of the prettiest in France, which has a rather smart bistro, too.

Reviews

Lovely peaceful place to come and stay with very welcoming owners. Well equipped gites with lots of character and an absolutely beautiful garden, come in May for the roses and peonies! Don't miss the medieval village of Lussan just up the hill, it's perfect and not even busy!

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on a quiet country road just outside the tiny village of Lussan. Just up the hill in the village, the bistro and local bar. Take a dip in the natural pools nearby, or borrow bikes and explore the quiet countryside. The fortnightly market in Uzès, 20 mins, is a must for food lovers. Canoe on the Gardon and Ardeche rivers, 35 minutes’ drive. The train station at Bagnols-sur-Cèze is 24km away.

Local points of interest from Stephane Neveu

  • We are close to the wonderful cities of Avignon, Nimes and Uzes, and the magnificent Cevennes and Ardeche mountains. Explore!
  • 5 restaurants in walking distance - Pizza van weekly. Charcuterie/cheese board to order for night of arrival. And of course our own gas and wood fired barbecues.
  • Walk or cycle in to the Garrigue straight from the Mas. Hundreds of miles of way-marked 'sentiers'. Maps and guides are provided. The Bergerie is ideal for dog owners with a gated courtyard - well behaved pets are welcome!
  • 6 acres of landscaped gardens at the foot of one of the 'Plus Beaux Villages'. There's always a quiet spot for that chilled evening sundowner. By the willow pond, in the boules garden, under the olives in the pool garden or on your own private terrace.
  • Foodie paradise, from Uzès' famed twice weekly market, to truffle fairs, olive oil mills, goat cheese farms and the vineyards of the Cote du Rhone. Try them all on a gourmet tour. Or arrange a wine tasting at the Mas - available for groups of 6 or more.
  • Welcome 'Apèro Provençal' each week; the perfect chance to meet other guests and share tips. A fun and informal get together sourcing local ingredients and wines.
