The Experience
In the heart of a pretty medieval village, a three-storey 15th-century building with powder-blue shutters has been lovingly transformed into a café and B&B. Climb upstairs to your tranquil en suite bedroom and a sitting room that’s all yours after 6pm. It’s peaceful up here, with only the river burbling gently below.
Owner Faye’s restoration strikes a perfect blend of old and new: exposed stone and chunky beams, vintage finds, modern art and warm lighting. Tuck into continental breakfasts or crepês in the cosy café – by the wood-burner when it’s chilly, or out on the terrace in the sunshine. Light suppers can be arranged too.
Wander into the gem-like village for meals at two local restaurants, promenade down tree-lined avenues or take a picnic to the riverside park. Pompadour is 10km away with its historic château and a plethora of places to eat. The Dordogne is nearby, and outdoor activities are plentiful.
