The Experience

Come for superb walking and cycling through hilly countryside riddled with lanes, vineyards, farms and villages – it’s a true French experience. You’re looked after here with grace and are given two beautiful bedrooms with easy chairs, well-dressed beds, pops of colour from pretty fabrics and en suite bathrooms with fluffy robes and local soaps and lotions. It’s serene and there are four hectares of park to wander.

Wake to continental breakfasts in the dining room: pastries from the local bakery, homemade granola, freshly squeezed orange juice, charcuterie and cheeses from the Pyrenees and eggs from the hens pottering outside. Find plenty of sun loungers with good views around the glistening saltwater pool or head to the covered barn for ping-pong, darts, badminton and pétanque.

Just a short walk through the vineyards is the start of the Voie Verte and, just across the road, you can find Horgelus, where you can taste and buy Armagnac.

Reviews

It would be heavenly to spend a night or many more in such a beautiful, charming place. The warm and talented owners have created two beautiful first-floor bedrooms, flooded with light, with marvellous views over the vine-cladded valley beyond. It would be great fun to explore the mysteries of Armagnac, and visit the beautiful villages and sites of the area.

Location

The neighbourhood

A ten-minute drive will take you to Eauze, a beautiful old town full of ancient buildings and history, plus a Thursday market popular with locals and rammed with local produce. Throughout July and August many surrounding villages host summer evening markets with live music. Visit the Gallo-Roman Villa Serviac, discover a 13th-century church at Montréal du Gers, steep yourselves in this region.

Local points of interest from Serena Pettitt & Adrian Roodenburg

  • Just a short walk through the vineyards is the start of the Voie Verte, a converted railway line now turned into a greenway; this path connects towns such as Condom and Eauze. It's ideal for a relaxed cycle or walking under shaded trees.
  • Eauze weekly market every Thursday year round is just 10 mins' drive. It has a huge selection of local produce and handmade items. It offers an authentic French market experience used by locals and an opportunity to try the region's favourite foods.
  • Throughout July and August many surrounding villages host summer evening markets. It's a relaxed, atmospheric environment, where you settle down on long tables and get to enjoy local food and wines from the many stalls, to the backdrop of live music.
  • There are three 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' within a 20-min drive. Stop at Montréal du Gers for the Friday market, head on to the circular bastide of Fources and finish at Larressingle fort – the Italian gelato shop is highly recommended!
  • The Gallo-Roman Villa Serviac is an 8-min drive, an archaeological site just outside Montréal-du-Gers. The 4th-century residence offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman provincial life. The private thermal baths and collection of mosaics are highlights.
  • Pop over to our nearest vineyard Horgelus, there's a small shop on site and you can try the wines and Armagnac before you buy. You'll be drinking the wines grown around the Château. We can also offer full wine tasting tours in English at a local Domaine.
