The Experience

Find elegant rooms in one wing of this handsome old family house, a lovely blend of old and new. You’ll receive a great welcome and generous hospitality from Laurence and Guillaume – but you can also find complete privacy if you prefer.

Laurence’s dinners alone are worth the visit; then there’s the fine heated pool on the olive-studded terrace, the rose garden and Italianate formality rolling past walnut groves. Organise yoga sessions or a massage in the grounds and learn to cook traditional fare with a local chef. Breakfast in or out on homemade jam, local bread, fresh pastries, and fruit juices.

Beyond the gates find beautiful Lot countryside, gastronomy and wine, old villages and unmissable Cahors (10-minute drive); enjoy bustling markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, an unusual cathedral, medieval streets lined with independent shops and the beautiful 14th-century Pont Valentré.

Reviews

On the doorstep of historic, fascinating Cahors yet a haven of tranquillity, where you will feel cosseted in a historic house of architectural interest and great comfort. The house oozes history and sits at ease within its extensive grounds. The vineyards may have gone, but be assured the Laurence and Guillaume will be excellent guides to the local wines and where to enjoy them with local produce.

Such a beautiful house and lovely grounds, tucked away in a peaceful setting. The rooms are cozy, immaculate, and beautifully decorated. Laurance was a perfect host, and helped us with dinner recommendations and reservations. Breakfast was delicious. We were only here for one night but could have stayed for days, especially in the summer.

We stayed in a gîte on this property for 4 nights and it was a highlight of our trip to France. The accommodation is of a very high standard with everything we could want for a memorable stay available in a beautiful country setting close to Cahors. The pool was lovely, the bbq an unexpected addition and the hosts so very welcoming and helpful. A perfect haven after busy days exploring some of pleasures the south west has to offer.

Louise, Sydney

Staying at Domaine de Labarthe was a highlight of our trip to this beautiful region of France. From the outset Laurence and Guillaume were charming and accommodating hosts. Check in early? No problem. Early breakfast? Freshly baked croissants and some for the road as well. The characterful old buildings have been elegantly restored and set in beautiful grounds. We were lucky enough to have the pool and outdoor kitchen to ourselves and enjoyed a barbecue as the sun set. Baked apple with warm brioche for breakfast by the pool rounded out a fabulous stay. And how could I forget the dogs!

Linda, West Wickham

This is a lovely B and B. There’s also a small self catering cottage. Everything is spotlessly clean, with lovely quality bed linen and towels. It’s tastefully decorated and furnished, in an attractive peaceful location. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful. We highly recommend Domaine de Labarthe.

Location

The neighbourhood

The estate is set back from a busy main road in the bustling village of Espère – once inside and down the long drive the feeling is of peace and tranquillity. You’re in wine country here so explore the many Cahors vineyards. The food is good around here too – head to the beautiful Château de Mercuès (two km) for Michelin-starred food or Aux Quatre Vins (7 km) serves hearty fare in a lovely setting.
