The Experience
You’ll feel at home the moment you walk in. Rooms are light and well proportioned with good artwork, pretty fabrics and warming rugs. A wood-burning stove, two big sofas will lull you on chilly days but as soon as the weather warms up you’ll be out on that gorgeous veranda and eating at a big wooden table. The views are stunning.
The kitchen is very well equipped, shelves are laden with crockery, the Lacanche stove will please cooks and there’s a cupboard with basics like oil and flour. You’re also left a baguette, croissants, a bottle of wine, cheese and pasta so enough to keep you going until you can get to the shops. Two charming view-filled bedrooms (one bigger than the other) are upstairs and share a bathroom with a bath but there’s also a shower room downstairs.
Splash in the pool, play ping-pong or simply laze on the veranda – more of an outdoor sitting room/kitchen with a built-in pizza oven and barbecue.

Location
The neighbourhood
Montcuq has great restaurants and a lively, bustling atmosphere – market day is Sunday, so you could stroll around then have lunch out. Saturday markets are at Montaigu-de-Quercy, a 10-minute drive or Cahors, 30 minutes. Here you can also visit the medieval bridge or take boat trips on the beautiful Lot river. Have a day kayaking on the Aveyron river from Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, an hour's drive.
Local points of interest from Dorcas Barry
- Local markets with in-season produce, lovely cafés and a bustling local community.
- Beautiful forest walks in remote countryside with lots of wildlife.
- Close to the Lot river for kayaking, river walks, pretty riverside towns. Boat trips in Cahors and river swimming.
- Brocante and Vide Grenier every weekend in all of the local towns, a very French tradition and a great place to find unique treasures.
- There are pretty bastide towns all around close by to visit. Medieval buildings, cobbled roads, weekly night markets, food, dancing, and music.
- Toulouse is an hour and 15 minutes away, known as "La Ville Rose" (The Pink City) for its terracotta brick buildings, it is a vibrant city celebrated for its rich history, aerospace industry, and lively cultural scene.

We haven't relaxed so much for ages on a holiday. The house is really comfortable, well laid out and it's lovely having a pool so close to the house. The area is peaceful and the little hamlet is delightful, with old stone buildings overlooking a valley.
