The Experience
Private, secluded, historic, romantic. You can roll out all the adjectives to describe this unique 12th-century watchtower in the heart of southern France. Thick limestone walls, a grand four-poster bed, flagstone floors and an enormous en suite bathroom (complete with stand-alone tub) make this the perfect getaway for two.
A walled courtyard abundant with flowering shrubs — blowsy hydrangea, hibiscus and roses — just adds to the sense of splendid isolation. Views from the garden take in the wooded valley filled with alders, oaks and walnut trees, and the countryside beyond, where you might glimpse red deer, hares and wild boar while short-clawed eagles, buzzards, kestrels and kites wheel overhead.
Breakfasts are a feast of local hams, cheeses, yogurt and croissants, as well as homemade compote of seasonal fruit from the garden. Co-owner Nicki is a keen cook and happy to whip up a tasty picnic to take on your adventures.

What a marvelous place to stay. This is first class all the way. Great attention to detail in every area of the accommodation. Historical and designer furnishings. The setting is right out of a book on the" French good life" if you desire to be in "rural France". Breakfast is bountiful and of outstanding quality. Outstanding external areas to relax. You are very close to Cordes sur Ceil with its stores, shops and places to eat etc. You are within 30 minutes of Albi and Toulouse is a comfortable day trip. Highly recommend the Bastide de la Bogne.

We stayed at Bastide de la Bogne in April 2025 and had the most amazing, private getaway in what can only be described as medieval luxury, nestled in gorgeous French countryside! Nicki and Kev’s place felt fit for a King and Queen with its 12th century suite with a grand four poster bed, antique furniture, quirky decor and the most luxurious bath tub and shower room I have ever seen! The landscaped gardens paired with the preserved and restored original features of the property make this stay unique and something very special. Kev and Nicki were amazing hosts throughout our stay.

Location
The neighbourhood
Aster and Au Jardin des Saveurs are recommended restaurants in nearby Les Cabannes (1km). Cordes dur Ciel (3km) has cafes, pizzerias and a brewery. Locally, there’s a huge choice of activities — from wild swimming in the Cerou river (at the end of the drive) to hot air ballooning, horse riding and kayaking. Albi (28km) has a magnificent cathedral and a museum dedicated to Toulouse Lautrec.
Local points of interest from Nicki & Kevin
- Dating back to the 12th Century, the same era as the magical Cordes sur Ciel just minutes away, and which can be seen from our property. This was originally a Medieval watchtower, which has been sympathetically renovated to create a unique living space.
- We own all of the land surrounding our home, please feel free to wander anywhere you fancy. Pop down to the pretty Donkey Bridge at the bottom of our drive and take in the slow flowing river and kingfishers swooping underneath.
- There are many walking opportunities straight from our door. The nearby Forest de Gresigne, one of the largest in Europe is close by if you want a more challenging experience. Or we can direct you to longer country walks that we enjoy locally.
- We can give you a map to show you just how close many more Bastide towns are from here, if this is of interest, you can cover 2 or 3 of them well in one days exploration, a fabulous road trip. Penne, Bruniquel and Puycelsi are all wonderful.
- In the summer there's numerous night time activities at the many Apero concerts held in the local vineyards, local food, good wine and live music. Just minutes away we have a fabulous Tap Room Auros, brewing its own beers and offering live music and food.
- There are markets pretty much every day of the week and we highly recommend Cordes on Saturday mornings and the ever popular morning market at St Antonin each Sunday. We can give you further information, depending on your interests before you arrive.

Introducing
Nicki & Kevin
In renovating the property, Nicki Mossman and Kevin Porter have brought their respective skills in the kitchen and garden to create a warm and welcoming space full of historic interest with just the right amount of modern comfort. Both are keen to share their local knowledge and can also arrange drawing, painting and stained-glass workshops nearby.
What romantic hide away. Nestling in a tranquil valley with fabulous views across to Cordes, Nicki and Kevin have created a stylish and luxurious suite in an ancient building amongst beautiful grounds. Nothing was too much trouble, they are so helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to returning and telling all our friends about it!
