The Experience

Only birds and bells break the bubble around this handsome B&B, set in quiet gardens near Marsilly port. The old stables of Stephane’s family home are transformed: soaring beams, elegant stone, huge terrace doors, a window to the cellar…You can slip into the pool after a day on the beach or brew a coffee and sit by the wood-burner flipping through magazines. At night, find snowy linen, original art, perhaps an antique desk or African carving in upstairs bedrooms. And in the morning, a homemade feast with traditional breads, tarts and more; nothing is any trouble for sweet Corinne. Hike or cycle coastal paths, golf, sail, visit historic Rochefort or La Rochelle…

Reviews

Susan, Bristol

Un banc au soleil is a real oasis in the quiet village Marsilly. Stephane and Corinne have done an amazing conversion and created something really special, decorated with beautiful artefacts from their stay in Cameroon. Corinne could not have been more welcoming, she was warm and relaxed, the sort of person you would like to get to know better. Unfortunately the sun did not shine so we did not use the pool but loved our stay nevertheless (6 go cycling in France).

Bruce

We stayed for 3 lovely days and were overwhelmed by Corinne and Stephane's welcome. The Gite is beautifully designed and very well planned in a contemporary manner. Nearby are very good and modest seafood restos. Overall, is perfect for a visit to Charentes. Stay awhile!

Local points of interest from Stéphane & Corinne Lassegue

  • Our region has beautiful monuments to visit and sporting events on land and sea.
  • La Rochelle is a pretty stop, with its port and two towers, maritime museum, pedestrianised streets, market houses, cathedral, St Savior church and the town hall.
  • The picturesque Il de Ré is nearby with its harbours, villages, and the best ice creams and waffles in France!
  • Sports are available, including surfing, bike rides, hiking and horse-riding. The house is 5-minutes away from an 18 hole golf course with restaurant.
  • We're on the border of Poitou, otherwise called the 'Venise Verte'.
  • Take advantage of the lovely coastal paths by renting one of our electric or classic bicycles. Just ask!
