The Experience
Come on down to this busy organic farm where they rear rare breed chickens and grow vegetables and herbs. It’s not a high-voltage destination but it will suit those who want to immerse themselves in nature. In the low season you can book individual gîtes: La Terrière on the ground floor, Le Plan Bois and La Talle, all for varying amounts of people depending on whether you connect the six-person dormitory. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom and there are three kitchens, one is very large.
Beds are supremely comfortable, furniture is handmade using wood from the estate and there are some carefully chosen antiques. Find pretty rugs on tiled or wooden floors, lovely views and lots of books. Outside you have an east-facing stone terrace and a courtyard facing a grassy quadrangle for barbecues, then a fecund kitchen garden with apple and pear trees. With a bit of notice you can have a delicious home cooked meal using the farm’s organic produce.
Walks and cycles along relatively traffic-free roads and footpaths will take you through verdant countryside.

A dream weekend. Boisguérin gite is set in a lovely wooded area. The welcome was perfect, the team met all our expectations. The bedding was extremely comfortable. All the guests enjoyed the meals. Breakfast with a view over the valley was a plus, the fried eggs were fabulous. Thank you very much for welcoming us so beautifully.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's serene here. Apart from lazing about, walks and cycles there's not much else to do. The local town Saint-Maxient-l'École has a direct TGV link to Paris and the owners will happily pick you up from the station. The nearest town with a market, cafés, restaurants and a Romanesque church is Melle (15km). La Rochelle for a day on the beach or on the Île de Ré is 45km. Futuroscope is 50 minutes.
Local points of interest from Jinane Prestat
- Boisguérin is located in the middle of a forest: la forêt de l'Hermitain, with tons of hiking routes - we can provide maps and detailed instructions.
- The property has mountain bike roads and trails: a national biking trial takes place just a couple of km across the road from the property in lovely valleys and forest tracks.
- Melle is beautiful "Roman" town, with Roman churches. It has busy cafés and restaurants, concerts and live events all year long.
- Local markets: La Mothe St Héray (2 km) on Thursday morning and Friday evening, Melle (12 km) on Friday morning, Niort (25 km) - one of France's best! on Thursday and Saturday morning.
- Futuroscope is about an hour's drive, as are the beautiful cities of Poitiers and La Rochelle.
- Towards the coast: the Marais Poitevin and then the great beaches of Fouras, Chatelaillon-Plage, and Royan, all within 45-60 mins by car.

At this group gîte, it is possible to book fully equipped independent apartments. We were delighted to be staying as a group of 2 couples with children. The estate is fantastic: a large historic house set between woods and fields and brilliantly restored gîtes in old buildings; the peaceful nature, the gardens, the fields of birds, resting and going for bike rides. Superb!
