The Experience
Tucked away behind the local working ferronnerie is this pretty pale stone house with wooden shutters and French windows opening onto the terrace: the feel is homely and informal with lots of books, interesting and attractive artworks on the walls, vases of artificial flowers. Downstairs feels roomy (although eating indoors with seven will be squeeze) and the kitchen is well equipped.
Bedrooms overlooking the garden are all upstairs and each has its own bathroom. The style is traditional with antique lampshades, furniture from the local brocantes and Provençal quilts. For larger groups there’s a separate annexe with a double bedroom, bathroom and small kitchen.
Paths lead into immediate countryside and a lovely walk to a local château and Sainte-Étienne-du-Grès for shopping is just 2km away. Summer evenings will be spent on the terrace, glass in hand, waiting for the barbecue, or cooling off in the pool.

The neighbourhood
This is a grand spot for exploring Provence and the coast is just 40 minutes' drive for a day out – try the beach at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the Camargue with its amazing birdlife. Saint-Rémy is 8km for a wonderful Roman site and lots of Van Gogh's most memorable paintings. Visit Les Carrières des Baux for art projections and music (15 minutes), eat out at some impressive restaurants.
