The Experience

This genteel old place, once a sheepfold, has been in Xavier’s family since the 1850s. It’s set high on a hill above the seaside resort of Golfe-Juan and has a two-tiered terrace extension overlooking the garden with wonderful views down to the coast.

Two bedrooms are in the main house and another two are in a separate attached building with a private terrace and external entrance. The farmhouse-style kitchen has all the mod-cons you need and has a table big enough to dine all together, or you can eat on the adjoining terrace or by the pool.

It’s utterly peaceful here: you can see cars moving along the coast road but it’s like watching a silent film. The large garden isn’t overlooked, and a stepped path leads past olive groves, some thought to be 500-700 years old and planted originally by local monks who lived on nearby Ile Saint-Honorat, as well as giant palms, lemon trees and cacti.

Reviews

Edwina, the owner, was really helpful, friendly and kind, which was particularly welcome given all of the uncertainty this year. She was ably assisted by Mme Chandemerle, who met us at the property. It was the perfect location during the pandemic: it had everything we could want, fantastic views and a great pool, separate fridge and BBQ area next to the pool. All we had to do was get provisions. You do need transport. La Bergerie is the perfect combination of an old historic characterful building with ancient olive trees, coupled with modern conveniences.

Christopher, Chester

The view across the Riviera is stunning yet it's so peaceful, private and relaxing. The house feels so authentic with a rustic, almost agricultural charm yet you are within walking distance of the seafront, yachts and beach side restaurants. The garden is great with a large pool terrace area and range of palm trees and 700-year old olive trees to walk amongst.

Location

The neighbourhood

Walk to Vallauris in 20 minutes or drive in five - it has a Picasso museum and lots of potteries and ceramics shops; Golfe-Juan (30-minute walk) has a large marina of superyachts and plenty of good Italian and seafood restaurants. Xavier also recommends Cap Riviera in Juan-les-Pins, which is good value for money. Nice Airport is a 20-minute drive and you can catch the train from Golfe-Juan.

Local points of interest from Edwina & Xavier De Boudemange

  • Don't miss the phare de la Garoupe, the most romantic place in the area.
  • Visit Monaco and Eze, as well as St Paul and Vence and Fondation Maeght
  • Visit Cannes, stroll on the Croisette feeling like in a film, climb the red carpet stair .
  • Go to The 368° restaurant, at the rooftop of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cannes. Best views over the old port.
  • Go to Antibes, its old city center, Picasso Museum, and great provincial market.
  • You're 10 minutes by car from very busy shopping malls and districts.

Introducing

Edwina & Xavier De Boudemange

Xavier and Edwina - he French, she Argentinian - are both very charming and speak English well. They have four grown-up children and live near Vichy (where Xavier works as a soya and maize farmer) but have a place locally and enjoy welcoming their guests on arrival. If they can't, then a local person is on hand to do the job.
