The Experience

A ground-floor space of this well-designed house surrounded by smooth lawns, masses of lavender and dreamy views to the Luberon hills. You have your own private entrance: find tiled floors, natural colours, plenty of space and a bit of a wild floral theme going on in wall hangings and headboards above decent beds. The kitchen has all the kit you need. Owners are on site too: Guylaine is an artist from Paris and Franck is a business consultant, harvesting his own olives, extracting essential oil from his lavender plants and producing honey from his bee hives. You might see a few guests from the two other apartments, but as this is a place for adults, it’s blissfully calm. You could just laze the days away by the lavender-lined pool, but there’s so much to see and do in the area: glorious walking and biking, wine-tasting at local vineyards, famous villages such as Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lourmarin and lovely, lively Aix-en-Provence with its cathedral, galleries and bookshops, less than 30km away. The pretty seaside town of Cassis and the celebrated limestone calanques are only an hour’s drive.

Reviews

David, Kent

Our 2nd time staying in the Cabanon and probably not our last. Fantastic. So relaxing with great views, peace and quiet and a fantastic comfortable and well equipped villa. Everything you need is provided and nothing beats an evening with a glass of Rose as the sun goes down. It was constantly 35 degrees or more so the shade on your own patio and from the tree outside is a blessing, as is the lovely pool. Only negative - having to leave. Many thanks to fantastic hosts Guylaine and Franck (and Romeo, Lily, Myrtille and Mesai)

Christine, Auckland, New Zealand

We have just spent the most fabulous three weeks in “la Cabanon du Murier”. The place is immaculate, beds are very comfortable, very good shower & the lounge & kitchen are well equipped and cool in the day when it is hot outside. The outdoor area is very private with a choice of loungers under the “kiwi fruit” covered pergola or under the shade of a tree. It was great to be able to cool off in the pool then relax on the sunloungers in this peaceful setting. Guylaine & Franck are great hosts & following their suggestions we experienced the best meals ever. We highly recommended a holiday here.

Isabel, Edinburgh

Beautifully appointed apartments with every comfort catered for. Lovely peaceful location and the owners (and their pets!) are charming. Loved it so much, we are thinking of going back again this summer.

Ron, Portland, Dorset

Lovely well presented cottage in beautiful gardens. Ideally situated to easily get to all the must see places in Provence. Very remote and peaceful if a bit difficult to find and the access road a bit bumpy. Hosts helpful and friendly.

Tracy, Nottingham

This absolute gem is simply heaven on earth. This was our second visit here...we never revisit anywhere..but made the exception for this gorgeous gite. It has everything you could possibly need and is super stylish and comfortable both inside and out...plenty of places to relax in the sun and shade and a fabulous pool too. Franck and Guylaine are the perfect hosts and are very knowledgeable about the locale giving great advice of the best and most beautiful places to visit. We will be returning without a doubt and cannot recommend this holiday retreat highly enough.

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Guylaine & Franck Barthelemy

  • Aix-en-Provence is full of squares, fountains and markets. You can wander, drink a glass of Rosé, enjoy the Provençal air, have a more cultural approach with the Museum Granet, Cézanne workshop, or the Cathedral “Saint-Sauveur”
  • Avignon offers old alleys and the Cité des Papes. Enjoy the amazing view of the Avignon famous bridge. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a little “Provencal Venice”, where you can find incredible antiques in the Sunday market.
  • Charming villages of Lubéron. I will share good restaurants, ice-cream maker, vineyards, art galleries etc, and the best walks. Bikes are available for those who want to enjoy a lovely ride before the sunset.. and the aperitif!
  • Alpilles, a heaven on earth surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. You will find Saint Rémy’s village where Van Gogh painted famous canvas, as well as the Cathédrale d’Images aux Baux de Provence!
  • If you have the courage to go bit further, you can visit La Camargue and its white horses(1h), Cassis and les Calanques (1h), Arles, its Arenas and le Pont du Gard (1h) or even the splendid Verdon Gorges (1h30).
  • If you prefer a "Farniente day", you can simply pick up your baguette and croissants at Rognes, our charming little village, sit at the café terrace or enjoy the swimming pool! Massage treatments available on request.

Introducing

Guylaine & Franck Barthelemy

Guylaine (an artist from Paris) and Franck (a business consultant) live in the main house on site during low season and move to the mountains in the summer when it's rented out. They bought the place in 2003 and opened to guests in 2009. They're always there to greet and welcome you with a cup of tea or a glass of the local rosé. They harvest their olives for their own olive oil and extract essential oil from their lavender fields.
