The Experience

The open-plan space is beautifully decorated with high ceilings, wooden beams and serene views to the garden from the wide kitchen windows. On rainy days you can watch TV from the comfortable sofa, sleep deeply in a well-dressed bed, pamper yourself in the Italian shower with fluffy bathrobes and towels. On balmy days you’ll be flinging open the doors and heading to your private terrace with an ancient olive tree for another day of hard toil, perhaps with a book.

An outdoor table and chairs are grand for al fresco meals and there are deckchairs to sink into afterwards. Cool off in the sunny pool or spend the evenings cooking up something delicious on the plancha in the shared outdoor kitchen. Your indoor kitchen has all you need to rustle up meals but you can order ample breakfasts at an extra charge, served on the Mas terrace. You can also order platters of cheese and charcuterie with a bottle of Bandol wine. For bigger parties you could book Le Cabanon with its Nordic bath and/or Le Jas.

Head to Le Beausset for shops and restaurants.

Reviews

The Mazet is a little gem, the perfect hideaway for a couple to recharge batteries. Hike or bike marvellous scenic walks or well-marked trails. When traveling with friends, rent the cute Cabanon too for a little extra.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in a remarkable geological site between the mountains and the sea – mostly Mediterranean pines and 'garrigue' – a grand spot for walkers, cyclists, rock climbers and birdwatchers. The Michelin-starred restaurant at Le Castellet is 7km and highly recommended – Le Castellet is one of the 'Plus Beaux Villages de France'. Thrice-weekly markets are a five-minute drive.

Local points of interest from Elsa Lambert-Ligier

  • It is always a quiet joy to see roe deer wandering across our forest-edged land. They appear softly, early morning or at dusk – and with a little luck, squirrels too, darting through the trees.
  • Le Beausset is lucky to host up to three Provençal markets each week, all year round. A lovely way to discover local produce, meet growers and feel the gentle rhythm of village life.
  • In the heart of Bandol yet surprisingly calm, Renécros Beach sits in a sheltered cove where road noise disappears. Well protected from the wind, it's ideal for a soothing swim late in the day.
  • Le Castellet, one of France's most beautiful medieval villages, charms with its stone lanes, small square and wide views. Just opposite, the perched village of La Cadière-d'Azur is equally graceful.
  • Vineyards surround the nearby hills, home to the celebrated Bandol wines. Visiting the estates, tasting where the wines are made, and walking among the vines feels timeless and deeply Provençal.
  • From the Mas, peaceful forest paths invite slow walks beneath the trees. Birds, shade and Mediterranean scents create simple moments of calm, perfect for reconnecting with nature.
