The Experience

Long, lazy days can be spent snoozing on the shady veranda, perhaps sliding into the pool for a cooling dip and, when you get hungry, nipping into the big, fully kitted-out kitchen to rustle up some lunch. Bring back something delicious and organic from La Halle de Grimaud who specialise in wonderful breads, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and wine – or visit local markets.

It’s a wonderfully rambling house with different levels and staircases (heaven for children playing hide and seek) and loads of space for everyone to have their freedom. The living room is vast, so if it rains you can light the fire and read a book from the extensive library, surrounded by eclectic artworks and family photos.

Bedrooms (three en suite and four sharing a bath or shower) have good views; bathrooms are functional and clean rather than ultra modern. You can relax here – when evening falls open a bottle of wine, light the barbecue and settle in happily.

We think you'll love

  • Feeling independent up your own private drive and surrounded by countryside – there are some good walks from the door
  • All the space indoors and out – children will adore the higgledy-piggledy layout, and hurling themselves into the lovely pool
  • Although the feel is remote, it's just 4km to Grimaud and Cogolin and half an hour to St Tropez and tempting beaches

Location

The neighbourhood

Cogolin has a lively bi-weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays plus a big LeClerc hypermarket for stocking up. Picturesque Grimaud has a small weekly market on Thursdays and a pleasant café for people watching and good coffee. Get up early and beat the traffic to visit the iconic market in St Tropez on Tuesdays and Saturdays – it's absolutely fascinating with some interesting regulars.
