The Experience

Another gem of architectural heritage preserved and improved by Pierres d’Histoire in their inimitable understated style. Your bright, open-plan space has comfy seating, a wooden table for convivial meals and a very well-equipped kitchen. Stride out into the grounds, swim in the pool, visit the spa (you need to book and pay extra) or get hearty in the sports court.

Two bedrooms have crisp cotton sheets and en suite bathrooms with organic soaps and lotions. You’re surrounded by lush greenery but it’s under an hour to Paris. There are lovely walks and cycles in the forest and if you take one of the other gîtes (there is even a connecting one) you can come as a bigger party.

The whole place has been designed as a wellness retreat and hideaway for families or couples. Restful to spend evenings in your own outdoor seating area with a glass of local wine while the children play.

Reviews

It would be fabulous to bring friends and family to get away from it all here – enjoying the spa, pool and sporting facilities, venturing out to markets or to explore the local châteaux and surrounding countryside – or just do nothing. The interiors are beautiful, supremely comfortable and very relaxing, and the old mill is a beauty.

Location

The neighbourhood

Most of the local villages are sleepy – you're surrounded by peaceful farmland and the nearest supermarket is in Maulette, a 10-minute drive. There's a restaurant, Four à Chaux just a five-minute walk away. Visit many châteaux including the wonderful Château d'Anet, 25 mins. The local markets brim with the freshest produce and, from the village, you can catch a train to Paris for a day of culture.

Local points of interest from Pierres d'Histoire

  • Enjoy a walk with more than 50 different species of trees scattered around the 3-hectare park of the domain.
  • You have an access to a multi-sports ground where you can practice Football, Basketball and Pickleball.
  • Enjoy a free late check-out (5 PM) on your departure (only available on Sundays).
  • Feel the atmosphere of an old mill that ceased operations in 1911.
