The Experience

You’re on the edge of a pretty village, but once through the gate and into the gardens, the feel is incredibly rural and quiet. Downstairs rooms are spacious and elegant with individually made lampshades and linen curtains – plenty of light pours in from windows overlooking the terraces and gardens. A desk is perfect for writers, there are secluded places to hide with a book and you’ll find games and a TV for rainy days.

The sleek kitchen is a good size and is well equipped with all you need – there’s also a coffee-making station on the landing for your morning brew. The main double bedroom is upstairs, en suite, and with views over vineyards, terracotta rooftops and the hills beyond. An extra day bed and a sofa bed in the living room can take overflow, plus a B&B room in the house for larger parties.

One of your outdoor terraces is for dining and not overlooked; the other leads down to the gardens and pool, with views over vineyards.

Reviews

Sitting in the shade of the twisted olive tree by the pool at Domaine de la Serve, the view is of acres of vineyards stretching to the blue hills beyond. Yet the house is only steps from a charming French village for picking up the morning bread to enjoy on the dining terrace, surrounded by roses, or indoors with pretty colours and imaginative decor all around. A lovely, peaceful haven.

Location

The neighbourhood

So handy to be able to stroll to Lancié which has a fine boulangerie and an épicerie shop run by local producers selling seasonal goods. It also has a well-recommended restaurant. Romanèche-Thorins is 2.7km for bars, a train station and restaurants; Pontanevaux-la-Chapelle is 8km, as is the larger town of Mâcon. Lyon can be reached in 50 minutes. There are many vineyards and wine tours.

Local points of interest from Laurence & Maxence

  • Hameau Duboeuf, a theme park all about wine, is a 5-minute drive from the house. Dine at their restaurant and taste Beaujolais wines.
  • Visit Abbaye de Cluny (30 mins) and Abbaye de Brou in Bourg en Bresse (40 mins).
  • As well as being famous its wines, the Beaujolais region was classified as a UNESCO Geopark in 2019 for its unique landscapes and remarkable geology.
  • For dining out, we recommend La Robe Rouge in Villié-Morgon and Le Coq à Juliénas.

Introducing

Laurence & Maxence

Laurence, who is an interior designer, and Maxence moved to the house from Lyon in 2020 with their labradoodle Victor. Although Laurence has an apartment in Paris and works there, they adore the countryside of Beaujolais and are very proud to share their knowledge and passion with guests. They know many of the local wine producers and can point you in the right direction for tours and vineyards.
