The Experience

It’s quiet here, on the edge of the village, but you’re near to the coast and some fabulous walking and cycling routes – bikes are free to use. Plan your next outing from the stylish living room with lots of space, books, magazines and games. The dining room has a lovely view of the mill wheel – breakfast on homemade jams and yogurts, fresh fruit, cheeses, cakes and eggs. Help yourself to drinks and snacks at lunchtime, and the owners prepare boards and salads. On Friday nights they offer table d’hôte.

There are four bedrooms on the first floor and two in a separate building – all are lavishly decorated and very comfortable, with en suite bathrooms, robes and good reading lights.

Spend sunny days on the terrace by the millpond, play a game of pétanque, or borrow bikes and set off on the EuroVelo 4 cycle route from Roscoff to Kiev.

Reviews

A beautifully restored former watermill (the mill wheel still turns). An ideal place for a stopover near the Channel ports and Eurotunnel but also as a base for exploring the magnificent Côte d'Opale during a longer stay. Luxurious but informal. Bed and breakfast and self-catering options; it's also possible to rent the whole property for larger groups.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a place to slow down and take stock – the feel is very rural, with chickens roaming and ducks and frogs visiting the mill pond. It's just 3km to the beach, easily done by bike, and there are some lovely walks in the Regional Natural Park of the Caps and Marshes of Opal. Sainte-Cécile is 4km for the cathedral, restaurants and shops, or head to Camiers.

Local points of interest from Nicolas & Jérémy

  • Mont Saint-Frieux: A hike along trails winding through the dunes and forest. The 152m climb offers a panoramic view stretching from Equihen to the Authie Bay. A path leads to a viewpoint overlooking Dannes Castle.
  • The Canche Bay: A national nature reserve, the Canche Bay is crisscrossed by several hiking trails. Observation points provide information about its biological and geological significance. The Tadorne loop will take you to the Plage des Pauvres.
  • Crevasse Cove: Take the coastal path and immerse yourself in the colours of the Opal Coast. Wild tides and singing winds accompany you from Équihen to Le Portel.
  • Pointe aux Oies & the Slack River: The meanders of the Slack river and its dunes shape the wild and authentic character of the site. Pointe aux Oies offers a superb view of the Fort d'Ambleteuse, which faces the British coast.
  • Montreuil-sur-Mer: Between the upper and lower towns, nature and heritage come together in perfect harmony. You can stroll along the ramparts of the medieval Citadel, redesigned by Vauban, with a superb view of the Canche river.
  • Le Touquet-Paris-Plage: The most elegant and sophisticated beach in the Pas-de-Calais. A delight for architecture enthusiasts, with its mix of fishermen's cottages and seaside chalets, Belle Époque villas and the architectural extravaganzas of the 1970s.
