The Experience

Come for a bit of peace, sea views, a cosy library with books and board games and a restful sitting room with an open fire – choose something from the small house drinks list, settle in and feel at ease. Interiors are calm and natural with restored pieces and thoughtful details; artwork and antiques add character.

Sleep peacefully in charming bedrooms varying in size and style, but all with goose down pillows, lovely views over the bay or the garden and en suite bathrooms with spoiling things from the Irish Handmade Soap Company. Wake to hearty breakfasts in the conservatory: West Cork coffee, home-baked breads and compote, followed by a freshly prepared seasonal menu.

Wander the pretty gardens, sit and listen to the birds, book a private slot in the sauna then plunge into the cold pond by the stream, or simply walk for miles through the surrounding countryside enjoying nature.

Location

The neighbourhood

Set off to discover The Ring of Beara – remote and less touristy than its neighbours – explore Hungry Hill, Garnish Island and Allihies. Join the Beara Way which starts and finishes in Glengarriff, famous for food trucks in the summer and with a nature reserve. Bantry has a famous farmers' market every Friday. Take boat trips, visit islands, play golf, kayak with seals, discover stately homes.

Local points of interest from Vanessa & Matti

  • The Ring Of Beara - Less travelled than its famous neighbours (Ring of Kerry & Dingle), the Ring of Beara offers the same stunning scenery with fewer crowds. This remote route features landmarks like Hungry Hill, Allihies, and Garnish Island.
  • The Healy Pass - Just 10 minutes from us, the Healy Pass is a must-see drive: soaring heights, breathtaking views, hairpin bends, and fearless sheep - all included.
  • Derreen Gardens - spans 60 acres of woodland walks, sea views, and subtropical plants nestled in the Caha Mountains. In summer, enjoy great coffee and homemade treats - one of our favourite places to visit!
  • The Beara Peninsula hosts 3 golf courses: Glengarriff Golf Club (9 holes), Berehaven Golf Club (9 holes), and Bantry Golf Club, featuring an 18-hole course set across 170 acres of woodland and coastline.
  • Gleninchaquin Park - Just over the Cork/Kerry border in Kenmare, it offers woods, log bridges, lakes, rocky passages, stone steps, and hill hikes. It also serves as the gateway to the historic Uragh Stone Circle.
  • Garnish Island - just off Glengarriff, features pristine subtropical gardens and untouched woodland with walking trails. Hidden within is a historic Martello tower you can climb for stunning views over Glengarriff Harbour and Bantry Bay.
