The Experience

The convent with bell tower has been immaculately restored, with grand steps leading up to the huge front door – communal areas have choice pieces of furniture and minimal but striking ornaments. Spend time in the cloister area with its covered perimeter and open central courtyard, a grand spot for a quiet read. Meals are also taken out here when it’s balmy, or in the chapel during the winter months.

Food is taken seriously and the focus is on local cuisine, excellent farm-to-fork ingredients and a lot of passion for Cilento regional specialities. There are only seven bedrooms – all good-sized for a convent and with modern, stylish, en suite bathrooms – so you’ll never feel crowded, either indoors or by the pool and garden. Spend time in the wellness area with Finnish sauna; there’s a wood-fired hot tub outside too.

Join a morning or evening Pilates session, cookery and pottery classes or wine tasting. Take a guided hike through the Cilento National Park, unwind in nature, enjoy good food, breathe.

  • The wonderfully ancient buildings with their cool stone walls blocking out oppressive, new-world thoughts
  • Spending time cooking, potting, walking, swimming, eating well, losing yourselves in the Cilento spirit of doing nothing, happily
  • Being so incredibly well looked after – you'll feel like a VIP even if you're not

Reviews

Once you arrive in the tiny hilltop town, the convent is easy to find and majestically welcomes you behind its thick stone walls steeped in 700 years of history. The bespoke arrangements for your stay will be finely tuned by Maria Chiara and Alberto for the most relaxing and soul-regenerating holiday. The national park's rugged beauty is still to a great extent untouched from the mountains to the sea.

Location

The neighbourhood

It's a wonderful area, with the national park's rugged beauty pretty much untouched all the way from the mountains to the sea; guided hikes will be sublime. The town is still lively and functional so you'll hear the locals nattering away. There's a newsagent, small supermarket, coffee bars and a pizzeria a short walk away, and plenty of excellent restaurants are a short drive – check with Maria Chiara and Alberto about where to go.

Local points of interest from Alberto & Maria Chiara

  • UNESCO Trio: Paestum (Greek temples), Velia/Elea (Greek - roman city of the philosophers), and the Certosa di Padula (monumental Carthusian monastery) - three unmissable cultural landmarks in the region.
  • Food & Mediterranean Diet (UNESCO Intangible Heritage): born here in the Cilento - seasonal ingredients, olive oil, vegetables, legumes and simple recipes, plus the lifestyle it inspires: slower days, outdoor living, community and wellbeing.
  • Marine Protected Coasts (Cilento Coast): Masseta & Baia degli Infreschi, Punta Licosa, and Capo Palinuro - crystal waters, wild cliffs, hidden coves and sea caves in one of Italy’s most unspoiled coastlines.
  • Mountains & Trails: from rolling hills to peaks near 2,000 m - hike or bike the Cilento’s inland landscapes, including routes around Monte Cervati and Monte Gelbison, with panoramic sanctuaries and untouched forests.
  • Rivers & Waterfalls: discover a different Cilento beyond the sea - freshwater hikes through gorges (Gole del Calore), natural pools and waterfalls (Cascate dei Capelli di Venere), with ever - changing scenery and peaceful hidden corners.
  • Cilento Pace: drive through hilltop villages and coastal roads, stop where the view calls you, and feel a truly slower rhythm - peace, silence and authenticity, not a trend but the natural way of life here.

Introducing

Alberto & Maria Chiara
