The Experience

In the quiet hills of Le Marche, a small eco B&B and organic farm. Seeking a slower pace of life, Annemarie and Tom relocated from the Netherlands and teased Scala (named after the outdoor staircase that leads to the B&B rooms) back to life.

The house runs entirely on green energy, thanks to solar panels and a ground source heat pump. Sustainability abounds with EV charging, organic linens and natural materials. Hand-harvested olive oil and home-buzzed honey grace the breakfast table along with bread, jam, yogurt, cheese, eggs and meats – all homemade or locally sourced. You eat on the terrace in summer.

Four bedrooms are designed to soothe with calming, earthy tones and charming views. The Adriatic coast is a 10-minute drive (towels supplied) – return to a secluded corner of the fragrant garden with a good book and glass of wine. Visit the on-site farm shop and vintage store for olive oil, honey, natural skincare and gorgeous finds to take home.

Location

The neighbourhood

Potenza Picena is only 2.5km away for a meal out, while the larger town of Recanati is 8km and is lively with shops, bars and restaurants. Visit the awe-inspiring Basilica della Santa Casa in Loreto (10km), catch a show at the open-air Sferisterio in Macerata (20km), dine at seafood restaurants in Numana and Sirola. Visit in the winter for a Salumi Experience – a weekend of crafting and feasting.

Local points of interest from Tom & Annemarie

  • Honey, olive oil & the farm. Our own honey, olive oil, orchard fruit, and kitchen garden produce feature at breakfast. Visit the beehives, taste both oils and honey, and take our produce home.
  • The food of Le Marche. Coastal restaurants serve pasta alle vongole and fresh grilled fish. Inland: slow-cooked meat, handmade pasta, and Verdicchio white wine. One of Italy's most underrated food cultures. We recommend freely.
  • Loreto and Recanati. Two hilltop towns 10-15 minutes away. Loreto's Basilica della Santa Casa is extraordinary. Recanati, birthplace of poet Leopardi, has views over both the Apennines and the Adriatic. Friday market.
  • Monte Conero and the coast. Sandy beaches at Porto Potenza Picena (10 mins), pebble beaches at Porto Recanati (15 mins), or dramatic Conero cliffs at Sirolo and Numana (20 mins). Sea in every style, all close.
  • The Sibillini Mountains. In under an hour: mountain hiking, medieval villages, and in May-June the Piano Grande - a high plateau of wildflowers that has to be seen to be believed. We can suggest routes.
  • Sunset aperitivo on the terrace. West-facing terrace, views over the hills, wine and local snacks as the sun sets. We run guest dinners once or twice a week using garden produce. Ask us when you arrive.

Introducing

Tom & Annemarie

Annemarie, Tom and their two young children live in the farmhouse. The couple work in harmony with the seasons to harvest olive oil and honey, and craft natural skincare products. They are delighted to share their little slice of rural heaven with likeminded guests.
