The Experience
Stone walls, vaulted ceilings, funky ironwork beds, polished floors and nothing to jar the eye; this is a blissful place tucked into the rurality of the Itria Valley yet near to magical Ostuni, Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica. The trouble will be finding the motivation to go out for the day when you can loaf about here: find a dreamy spot to read in the garden, shaded by olive, fig, walnut and cherry trees, have a gentle splash in the beautiful pool, wander into the kitchen to get some lunch, have an afternoon snooze, fire up the barbecue and open a bottle of wine for the evening. The ancient property has been completely restored but retains a delightful, rustic feel and views are to open fields divided by low dry stone walls and the odd whitewashed house – you’ll feel very private. Sleep peacefully in delightfully simple bedrooms with exposed stone walls and doors to the outside, freshen up in contemporary bathrooms. Tear yourselves away for great local food: ear-shaped orecchiette pasta with turnips, creamy burrata, panzerotti filled with tomato and mozzarella, seafood specialities. Gorgeous.

Booked on the back of Sawdays description of dreamy languid beauty outside and in. Our experience was sadly very different. We did not fault the interior however the exterior had clearly not been maintained, cleaned or replaced in many years. Uncomfortable due to holes, dirty, no cushions and the 3 there were stained and filthy. Tables covered in stains. Dirty bbq and prepping station. Pathways covered in rotting fruit. Gardens not swept or maintained. Pool not cleaned before our arrival. As such we did not feel we could stay and left. No help or apology from either the owner or Sawdays.

We've been in touch with Elizabeth who is very upset you didn't enjoy your stay. She has replaced the outdoor cushions and the barbecue is now spotless. The pool had been cleaned on the morning of your arrival but it had been windy and it's autumn so some leaves may have fallen in the meantime. She also regrets that you didn't contact her before you left – arriving on the Saturday and leaving the next morning – because all these things could have been resolved at the time.

A wonderful place in a great location - peaceful, calm and beautifully furnished. Perfect for large family gatherings or close groups of friends, with plenty of common areas and spacious tables to share meals, chat, read or simply relax in the sun and enjoy the tranquil setting. Ideally situated for exploring the Valle d'Itria and the best of Puglia.

What an amazing house. We spent 2 weeks at La Vigna, and it was an absolute joy. Beautiful place - beautifully done, tranquil setting and close to wonderful towns for restaurants and sensational architecture! Elizabeth was a dream host too. Can't recommend enough.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Elizabeth & John
- The stunning whitewashed, ancient hilltop towns of Ostuni and Cisternino are fifteen minutes away by car, as is the baroque and beautiful Martina Franca.
- Wonderful fresh Italian food markets can be found every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in the surrounding towns.
- An excellent pizzeria is a five minute stroll from the house.
- The nearest nice beach, Lido Morelli, is around 20 minutes away in the car. Torre Guaceto, a large nature reserve and home to by far the nicest -and also wonderfully empty- beaches in the area, is a 30 minute drive from the house.
- The grounds of the house have an abundance of fruit trees, a small working vineyard and 60 olive trees.

We had a wonderful stay at la Vigna. It was our first trip with the baby and grandparents - the house is ideal for families, it's well maintained and comes with a cot and plenty of furniture to lounge around inside and out. The pool is very relaxing and there's plenty of shade from nearby trees. A very relaxing, peaceful house and garden and well located with some great restaurants around!
