The Experience

Each apartment has everything you need: gorgeous sitting rooms, elegant spaces for dining inside or out, and well-equipped kitchens stocked with olive oil, teas, coffee pods, fruits and yogurts. The apartments can be rented individually or taken together for larger groups.

Furnishings are light and bright giving the whole place a crisp, contemporary feel, and you can enjoy the owners’ collection of Oriental art and antiques. Underfloor heating and air conditioning keeps the temperature comfortable, beds are supremely well dressed and each bedroom has its own sparkling bathroom. A lift from the street level and roll-in showers make accessibility easy for most.

The terrace has several levels for sipping some local wine and admiring the beautiful churches and buildings around you, and there is a fabulous shared roof terrace. Step out to Piazza Salandra, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, and enjoy the Italian atmosphere.

Location

The neighbourhood

Just a ten-minute walk for you to join the shoreline promenade between Santa Maria al Bagno and Santa Caterina – a lovely spot for a morning walk, coffee or breakfast with gorgeous views. If you want a longer ramble then head to Porto Selvaggio Nature Reserve. Eat local dishes at Trattoria San Giuseppe, the Dotti Bar does a great steak, the best seafood is at Pergola in Santa Maria al Bagno.

Local points of interest from Vanessa Miner

  • Lecce may be the Queen of Salento, but Nardo is its equally beautiful little sister. Piazza Salandra, voted one of the most picturesque piazzas in Puglia is just a few steps from Nardo House: surrounded by numerous places to enjoy coffee, brunch, ice cream, aperitivo, or dinner.
  • The Ionian shore has an abundance of delicious seafood restaurants, luxurious beach clubs, and the world-class Porto Selvaggio nature reserve. The nearest beaches include the horseshoe-shaped bay at Santa Maria al Bagno.
  • Alberobello, the white hilltop town of Ostuni, or the Venetian harbor of Monopoli, can easily be visited on a day trip. However, the real beauty lies in a leisurely drive that allows you to explore the smaller surrounding villages and enjoy the scenic views along the country roads.
  • Charming and chic Tricase is located near the Adriatic coast and boasts fabulous seafood restaurants. A drive from Santa Maria di Leuca at the tip of Salento through Castro to Otranto will take you along a breath-taking clifftop road.
  • Be sure to look for the artisan dairy shop in the city wall near the Castle, or the Gabbiano cafe, which sits on a famously sunny corner, or Cafe Mari (just around the corner from Gabbiano) for a delicious home-cooked lunch.
  • Matera, the unique ancient city most recently boosted by featuring in a James Bond movie is just over 150 km away but take the lesser-known route via Gravina in Puglia & the Alta Murgia National Park with remains dating back to the Neolithic period.
