The Experience
Salento is the heel of Italy: you can walk the rugged cliffs of the Salentine peninsula, or laze on the beaches of Tricase and Castro Marina. Lucugnano is a characteristic small town of Salento. A local lady welcomes you to your 17th-century Palazzotto, holiday home of a family from Rome. It’s a wise old house, solid and cool, and built, according to local tradition, around a courtyard garden. Long stone seats are softened with cushions; a pomegranate tree proffers lunchtime shade; doors and tall windows frame cloudless blue skies. The house was once home to two families, hence the intriguing layout and the many steps and levels. A stone stair leads to bedrooms on the first floor (two of which are connected by a door); above is a roof terrace with views to Tricase and Specchia. As for the décor, it is sophisticated but friendly. White walls and stone floors are uncluttered, shutters are pale painted, a round antique table seats ten. Eat and drink your way through the produce of the region, stroll the narrow streets of coastal Otranto, marvel at Lecce, the capital of ‘Barocco’.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Isabella Lauro
- Il Palazzotto di Lucugnano is close to the seaside . You can enjoy both the Adriatic coast, with its beautiful cliffs, rocks and small harbours like Tricase and Porto and Castro, and the Ionian coast, with its sandy beaches and cristal clear water
- The location of Lucugnano is very convenient for visiting the beauties of Salento: historical sites, villages and landscapes. Dont' miss Lecce, Galatina, Otranto, Gallipoli, and small villages like Specchia and Alessano which are just few minutes drive
- If you like walking there are nice tracks along the coast, like the Ciolo path between Gagliano and Novaglie. You could also discover the territory and the Mediterranean vegetation by riding the bicycle in the countryside paths along the coast
- Lucugano is rich with art crafts and traditions. Worth a visit are the renowned laboratories of Giampiero Indino and Massimo Ferrari, which still produce, with traditional techniques, the "Terraccotta Salentina". In Tricase you can attend pottery courses.
- In the area you will taste great food from sea and land relish the admired local wines like negroamaro and primitivo. Walking distance are two nice restaurants: Jolanda and Castello di Momo. Don't miss Bar Melissa with its cakes and vintage atmosphere
- In Lucugnano you can buy fresh vegetables from the greengrocer in via della Madonna, delicious bread and taralli from bakery shop "le Futuse" and the famous olive oil from frantoio Santacroce or near Alessano "Le Matine_Bello"

Beautiful house, nicely decorated - stylish but you feel at home - plenty of space (even for the kids to run around), lunch in the garden, drinks on the roof on a sunny day. Very comfortable, nice sitting room with fire place, plenty of books and lots of different spots to sit and read. Big, well-equipped kitchen, everything you need, all easy to manage. Well placed for good local restaurants and for visiting Otranto, Lecce and Gallipoli and the coast too. Sandy and rocky beaches; cliffs with stunning views over the Adriatic.
