The Experience
Hotel-style formality and restrained luxury are the hallmarks of this adobe-style retreat. From the main road head up through rolling vineyards to the gated entrance and into a heady world of fine food and wine, gardens of herbs and lavender, and a promise of pampering. All rooms have distant sea views and their own garden terrace – included in your stay is entry to the Insula Beach Club, five minutes away.
Plentiful breakfasts are served buffet-style from one long table, a feast of breads, cereals, fruit, cheese and ham. Spend active days walking or attending a class (wine-tasting and cookery are both available), or lazy days in the shade with a book, sliding into the pool when you get too hot.
Visit salt mines and historic towns, return to dine in on local specialities as the sun dips below the horizon. The closest village is Menfi, a ten-minute drive for ancient ruins, sparkling seas and glorious beaches. Sample excellent wines.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're deep in the vineyards here so tasting their wines will be a joy for oenophiles. Walks through the fields will be quiet and reflective, there's nothing to disturb the peace. Culture vultures can head to Selinunte, one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe – just a 12-minute drive, or marvel at Europe's largest Land Artwork at Il Cretto. For Greek history head to Agrigento.

We didn't stay but we did eat. The food was not only delightfully presented but tasted so good - a rare combination and the staff incredibly efficient and friendly. But the wine! We had the one from Etna and it was perfect.
