The Experience
Both spaces have been superbly designed inside while preserving exposed stone walls, arches, beams and bamboo ceilings – even an original Sicilian kitchen, purely decorative now. The thickest walls keep you cool in summer, warm in winter (although there is air con in every room) and each has their private slice of garden along with the run of all the pretty grounds and a swimming pool planned soon.
Kitchens are modern, industrial looking and generous, the walls have a mix of stunning art and old agricultural baskets, bathrooms have showers in plain, spotless stone. Kind Luigi leaves you fruit, coffee, a bottle of local wine and pistachio nuts – you’ll be drawn to enjoy them from a bench in the grounds with views to the sea and birds twittering overhead – spot bats at night.
You’re close to Noto and Avola for culture, restaurants and fish markets; taste wine at a Cantina down the road, find endless beaches for swimming and picnics.

Luigi's "La Tannura" enfolds its guests in a story which conveys the the rich heritage of Southern Sicily; juxtaposing traditional masseria stone vernacular with a minimalist interior achieving a tasteful aesthetic and delicious comfort. The chorus of crickets provide a gentle soundtrack to view the expansive estate of fragrant carob trees and ancient olive groves. Luigi is the most thoughtful, sincere host, who made sure my son and I were well looked after with great recommendations for local cuisine, incredible beaches and towns steeped in Baroque history. Grazie mille Luigi!

We had a fantastic time. Luigi was a wonderful host and he shared some great tips for restaurants and places to visit. We stayed in Piccola which was beautifully decorated and had it's own peaceful courtyard where all you you could hear was the birdsong. Noto nearby is a stunningly beautiful city and Siracuse has amazing archaeological remains and a lovely town centre. There is also a wonderful coastal nature reserve very close by. We very much hope to come back.

Luigi is a widely travelled, interesting and very responsive host. We loved the peace and beauty of his beautifully sympathetically restored farm house. A perfect introduction to the delights of Sicily. Luigi’s cat came to sun outside our door on our first morning. The delightful courtyard would be a lovely spot to relax on warm summer evenings A great place from which to explore nearby towns of Noto, Siracuse. (Be green take the train)! They are sadly not that frequent but very easy. Tickets can be bought on line or in local Tobacco shops. Grazie Mille Luigi

Location
The neighbourhood
Walks abound from the door, the garden is peaceful for yoga and you can trek to ravines and caves for wild swimming spots. Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is a beautiful Baroque city, 4kms. Avola is 2kms, quiet in winter, busier in summer, with an old town, lots of food shops and fish to buy for the barbecue. Beaches are near, some sandy, some pebbled and with clear seas. Syracuse is 18kms.

Introducing
Luigi Pau
Luigi, who lives on site, worked for the United Nations for many years. He bought the farm and the land in 2014 and two architects from Naples worked on the renovations for two years. They opened to guests in 2016. He loves having guests and sharing his beautiful home. His other passions are kite surfing, kayaking and mountain biking so he can lead you to all the best spots.
We absolutely loved our stay in La Tannura Grande - it's tucked away in a beautiful quiet location, but so well positioned for a host of gorgeous local sites (beaches, vineyards, historic towns etc). The space, both inside and out, is extremely elegant, and superbly equipped, and we felt totally at home - not least thanks to Luigi, who is a charming, knowledgeable presence, always on hand but never intrusive. We took his advice regarding pasticcerie, restaurants and beaches, and were delighted with every one. We can't wait to come back! Highly recommended.
