The Experience

The grounds, aromatic with roses and lemons, are much-loved, and the outbuildings and chapel have been beautifully restored. The entrance is through an enchanting courtyard – pull the bell, open the doors, ascend the steps, and enter the home of the Fiorentini family.

Find portraits, busts and paintings on pale stone walls, wrought-iron beds on polished tiles, family furniture revived with fresh fabrics and colours, and a billiard room en route to the tower, from where you can gaze at the stars. Bedrooms, big, traditional and in the main house, are named after family members who have lived here.

Breakfast is served in the dining room, or outside on the terrace in the sunshine: breads, croissants, local cheeses and homemade jam from the fruit trees on the estate. Wander the pretty gardens, find a quiet spot to sit, or swim in the pool. The feel is very quiet and rural but you can walk into Monteroni d’Arbia, just 2kms away.

Reviews

From the moment I arrived at Castello San Fabiano, I felt as if I had entered a bygone era. Here Italian history, the roots of a very old Roman family and what living in a very old Tuscan country house, is all about. One leaves the modern world behind as soon as one enters the short avenue to the main entrance courtyard and feels part of the Fiorentini family and their world.

This is a fabulous place to stay. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The castle is quiet, breakfast tasty with homemade jams, breads, butter and local meats. Hosts are extremely helpful with restaurant and winery reservations, also directions to where we wanted to go. Scenic routes to see the Tuscan landscape was appreciated. We had dinner, which was cooked on site by the owners and was delicious. We also had the guided tour of the castle which is priceless. The whole family is delightful, gracious and helpful.

The write-up is spot on. We just spent four nights at Castello Di San Fabiano and our hosts could not have been more gracious and generous. We learnt so much about the history of the Castello and the history and politics of the region. Their hospitality was wonderful. We enjoyed breakfast on the Jasmine infused terrace and a fabulous dinner in one night. The restaurant recommnedations they gave us were fabulous and their suggested itineraries around Tuscany provided for many hours of happy exploration. The sunset views from the tower were a treat. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

Introducing

Benedetto Fiorentini

The Fiorentini family, Filippo, Rachel and two sons Fabio and Giovanni, have been part of the history of San Fabiano for centuries. They were based in Rome and used the castello as a weekend retreat and hunting lodge until 1970, now it is their home and they generously share it.
