The Experience
Enjoy David’s wine on arrival, absorb the view of cultivated and wooded hills and unwind. Chrissie and David, warm, generous, thoughtful, bought the farmstead in a ruinous state and did it all up in under a year. The little ‘houses’, private but close, each with its own terrace, are suitable for singles, couples or families. The restoration is sympathetic, unpretentious, delightful, the off-white décor and soft furnishings enhancing undulating beams and stone walls; the bathrooms are lovely. Supplies are left for breakfast on your first morning and should last until you’re ready to venture out. Your hosts produce their own wine, olive oil and seasonal herbs and vegetables, which you can pick from the garden. Feed a friendly, fluffy alpaca, or take advantage of the library of books and board games on offer in the main house. David cooks on Tuesdays, and Thursday is pizza night – your chance to use an original wood-fired oven. Bliss to have Perugia nearby – a 20-minute drive – and to return to a pool with views down the valley all the way to Assisi, a bottle of chilled Orvieto by your side.

We met our son and his family at Casa San Gabriel and it was perfect. The individual cottages suited us, they were well equipped and gave us everything we needed plus there was a little playground for the grandchildren. We will have to come back in the summer to try out the pool. The view from up there was spectacular. Whilst you feel you are in your own little world away from everything, all you need is close at hand.

My wife and I had the opportunity to spend some time in Umbria at David and Chrissie Lang's property "Casa San Gabriel". There are 3 well equipped cottages with wonderful views of the valley in the foreground. The welcoming arrival including snacks, beer and a bottle of Trebbiano from the local Vineria were greatly appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble and we enjoyed many walks with their dogs Lena and Bessie around the surrounding hills. With the Vineria close by and many villages and towns close by to explore... the perfect place to experience the Umbrian countryside.

We had a wonderful week staying at Casa San Gabriel with our two children. David and Chrissie are fantastic hosts, the setting and views are amazing and it's perfectly located with lots of places in easy reach for a day trip, with a heavenly pool to come back to and relax by at the end of the day. We would definitely come and stay again!

A superb holiday experience to escape from the city. We've had the pleasure of staying once before at Casa San Gabriel in the La Stalla cottage and were excited to return. The cottage is perfect for a couple to stay in and the large windows offer uninterrupted views out to a lush valley of vineyards and olive groves with Assisi in the distance. When it's warm, breakfast or an evening drink on the patio provides an even better view! Hosts David and Chrissie are most welcoming and have the cottages and surrounds maintained beautifully and the pool in warm weather is perfect! Thank you!

It's hard to imagine a more picturesque location that Casa San Gabriel, perched above a post-card perfect valley in rural Umbria. It's a great base for exploring the medieval towns that seem to emerge from every hilltop. Our gregarious hosts, David and Chrissie, know the region inside out and were able to recommend a great itinerary, including local festivals we wouldn't have known about otherwise. The chestnut festival at Preggio was an absolute highlight of our stay.

We were doing a multi country tour in Europe finishing up in Rome and after a few hectic weeks what an oasis of peace and tranquility Casa San Gabriel proved to be. We were looking for somewhere to wind down before commencing the long journey home and were recommended here by a friend who had found them in Sawdays. Chrissie and David and their girls were wonderful hosts and we could not of asked for any more. We stayed in Fienile which was a very well equipped cottage with a spectacular view. A great hub to explore locally with many close by little treasures to explore without over doing it.

Over the course of many years travelling through Italy, I have returned to Casa San Gabriel several times. A beautiful setting with a perfect view of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi on a bright day. The area is surrounded by ancient woodland and vines that cascade and climb over the mountainous terrain. Fine walking routes allow you to explore and sample the wine and gastronomy of the area on route in peace and tranquillity. The crowning glory is the pool, situated at the highest plateau with peripheral views of the area. Casa San Gabriel is an umbrian idyll.

We had the most brilliant week here a couple of years ago. In fact, I’ve been inspired to write this after stumbling across the entry. We swam in the pool every day, made new friends, star-gazed every night. The wine was fantastic and Christina and David were the most relaxed and friendly hosts. One of our best family holidays.
