The Experience
Enjoy David’s wine on arrival, absorb the view of cultivated and wooded hills and unwind. Chrissie and David, warm, generous, thoughtful, bought the farmstead in a ruinous state and did it all up in under a year. The little ‘houses’, private but close, each with its own terrace, are suitable for singles, couples or families. The restoration is sympathetic, unpretentious, delightful, the off-white décor and soft furnishings enhancing undulating beams and stone walls; the bathrooms are lovely. Supplies are left for breakfast on your first morning and should last until you’re ready to venture out. Your hosts produce their own wine, olive oil and seasonal herbs and vegetables, which you can pick from the garden. Feed a friendly, fluffy alpaca, or take advantage of the library of books and board games on offer in the main house. David cooks on Tuesdays, and Thursday is pizza night – your chance to use an original wood-fired oven. Bliss to have Perugia nearby – a 20-minute drive – and to return to a pool with views down the valley all the way to Assisi, a bottle of chilled Orvieto by your side.

We met our son and his family at Casa San Gabriel and it was perfect. The individual cottages suited us, they were well equipped and gave us everything we needed plus there was a little playground for the grandchildren. We will have to come back in the summer to try out the pool. The view from up there was spectacular. Whilst you feel you are in your own little world away from everything, all you need is close at hand.

We met my parents there whilst they were travelling. Great spot for kids with plenty to keep them busy. They lived playing with the dogs, Bessie and Lina. Great little cottage with lots of space. Would stay here anytime

My wife and I had the opportunity to spend some time in Umbria at David and Chrissie Lang's property "Casa San Gabriel". There are 3 well equipped cottages with wonderful views of the valley in the foreground. The welcoming arrival including snacks, beer and a bottle of Trebbiano from the local Vineria were greatly appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble and we enjoyed many walks with their dogs Lena and Bessie around the surrounding hills. With the Vineria close by and many villages and towns close by to explore... the perfect place to experience the Umbrian countryside.

We had a wonderful week staying at Casa San Gabriel with our two children. David and Chrissie are fantastic hosts, the setting and views are amazing and it's perfectly located with lots of places in easy reach for a day trip, with a heavenly pool to come back to and relax by at the end of the day. We would definitely come and stay again!

Location
The neighbourhood
The hamlet is immersed in a green valley of vineyards, olive groves and woods, at 4 km from the town of Pierantonio where you find basic shops and a supermarket. For special meals, the retro-chic Borgo Mela is a 4 minute drive with slow food specialities as well as the Ristorante and Pizzeria Il Caldaro in a country setting, renowned for its twice-baked pecorino soufflé or cappellacci filled pasta with mozzarella. Hire a bike, take a cookery lesson, truffle hunt or sit back and taste the local wines.

Introducing
Christina Todd & David Lang
Having moved to Umbria nearly 20 years ago to swap corporate life for life up a mountain in the Umbrian countryside, Australian David and English Chrissie are still passionate about the food, wine and region where they have chosen to call home. Their children attend local schools, play volleyball everywhere they possibly can and have become part of their local community.
We had the best week at Casa San Gabriel, staying in La Cantina. The cottage had all we needed, the highlight being the terrace with spectacular views down the valley. David and Chrissie were excellent hosts and nothing was too much trouble - they were happy to recommend walks and book tables for restaurants. We had a great evening at Borgomela where the food and welcome were exceptional and we can highly recommend the wine tasting lunch at the winery (within walking distance). There is plenty to do and see without having to drive too far. We will definitely return - many thanks to you both!
