The Experience

It’s peaceful here in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where thousands of migratory and overwintering birds thrill birdwatchers and romantics. The fishing lodge is an intimate retreat for two, simple and cosy with comfy armchairs round the fire and gorgeous watery views from each window – a lovely balance of rustic and modern.

A compact yet fully functional kitchen has all you need for holiday meals, there’s also an outdoor kitchen and swish barbecue, and with notice meals can be prepared for you. The bedroom is charming, the bathroom spacious with a contemporary shower and there’s an outdoor shower by the wild natural swimming pond. On balmy evenings you can lie in the canopy bed outside to admire the stars. You’ll find a picnic kit and you can play bocce, ride bikes and enjoy experiences with rowing boats, a Land Rover and horses.

Slide into the lake, sunbathe on the loungers, slow down, hear only birds and the rustle of the wind through sedges and tamarisk branches.

Location

The neighbourhood

An utterly remote haven, but by car you can be in Porto Levante in 10 minutes for small old-fashioned food shops and cafés that give a taste of local life. The nearest place to eat is Rifugio Il Ghebo, a restaurant on a nearby island. You can be picked up by boat for a magical mini adventure through the canals and a wonderful meal of local fish and seafood. On foot you can head into the reed beds.
