The Experience

Over the years this charming home acquired various additions as the family grew. Now it’s been spruced up to become a bright and welcoming space nestled in a traditional whitewashed village in the rural Alentejo region. Right in the heart of Portugal, you’ll discover golden plains and rippling hills as well as the rugged Atlantic coastline and historic city Évora.

Families, couples and small groups will all be content here. When the sun beams down you’ll want to be on the fantastic terrace, splashing in the little pool, soaking up the gorgeous views, stretching out on the loungers and sitting down for supper as the stars begin to dot the sky. The kitchen is neat and well-stocked or you can wander into town for meals: Sabores da Vila and O Barrela are both recommended.

Find tons of useful info from the owner to help you choose where to go and what to do, from excellent pastry shops to horse riding, vineyard tours and Roman ruins.

Reviews

Casa Avó Pam is a family house, located in the friendly village Alcáçovas. The house came into the family around 1930, over time the family grew and rooms were bought from the neighbours next door. In the meantime, the grandparents passed away and the family decided to restore the house and make it look more contemporary, but respecting the original design. A beautifully updated old family home. I was made to feel very welcome.

Location

The neighbourhood

Alcáçovas is a typical whitewashed village buzzy with cafés, restaurants and shops so there's plenty to do without a car. Visit the 16th century church and Paço dos Henrique, a 14th century royal residence. Évora is a half hour drive and packed with interesting things to see and do plus a plethora of typical Alentejo restaurants. The coast is an hour's drive but Comporta beach is a stunner.

Local points of interest from Francisca Nunes

  • The typical Alentejo restaurants "Sabores da Vila" and "O Barrela" are only 700m away.
  • The property is situated 12 km from the village of Torrão, and 72 km from the beaches of Comporta.
  • Visit the historic city of Évora and see its centuries-old monuments
  • Taste the wonderful Alentejo wines and taste the typical sweets of the region.

Introducing

Francisca Nunes

Francisca's grandmother was born and lived her entire life in this house. As the family grew over the years, extra rooms were bought from the neighbours creating a homely mix. Now the house has been modernised while respecting the original design, and although Francisca lives in Lisbon, she knows and loves the village and her recommendations for places to eat and things to do are spot on.
