The Experience

Rumble up a long track to these authentic farm buildings, whitewashed, beamed and surrounded by swathes of avocado, mango, orange and kumquat trees, shaded by vines and humming with birds and cicadas. The feel is informal and relaxed: breakfast is served from 9-11 (two types of bread, olive oil, homemade jams and marmalades from their own fruit, Serrano ham, cheeses, eggs and yogurt) and dinner is offered now and then, sometimes wood-fired pizza.

If you prefer to self-cater you can use the outdoor kitchen or the barbecue and there’s a communal sitting room with a log-burner and an honesty fridge with beer, wine and soft drinks. Each bedroom has a dreamy view, one over the pool and the others across the valley and over to the hills. Walking is superb, very hilly and with beautiful views.

Find secret spots in the garden, a hammock here and there for dozing, the lovely big pool for cooling off and a rooftop terrace for stargazing.

Reviews

The luxury here is the peace, the lush tropical setting, the wind brushed palms, the cicadas... Close your eyes and you could be in Nicaragua, or central Mexico. The rooms are comfortably appointed and spotless, with a view from every room to make you melt into a sunlounger after a delicious dip in the pool. This is your getaway secret that you won't tell anyone about.

Peaceful, rustic, gorgeous pool, lovely decor. Up in the mountains. Relaxation. Welcoming helpful owners. Delicious breakfasts. Lots of different seating areas. Small kitchen to self cater if you want. We loved our stay. Hired two of the three bedrooms which could be interconnecting. Just lovely, thank you.

What a wonderful place! We and our 13 year-old twin boys enjoyed days by the pool and in the hammocks in the garden and by the coast and evenings in the cosy snug (it was an unusually cool April) playing games by the wood burner. Beautifully designed, peaceful and surrounded by green hills, it really was an oasis. Leo and Sandra couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful - and cooked a delicious meal which we shared with them - but it's so well set-up that we felt we had our privacy also. We would love to go back.

I loved the beauty and calmness of El Oasis. Our hosts were so helpful. We had places to sit in the sun and the fire in the evenings in the Salon was delightful. Breakfast was delicious. For calm and serenity you couldn’t beat this venue. If you find steps difficult there are lots! The road up to El Oasis is not for faint-hearted drivers.

Lovely 2 night stay at B and B Oasis. Leo and Sandra were great hosts and made our stay as comfortable as possible. It is a bit of the beaten track, but the scenery and quietness make up for the drive. Looking at the sky at night was amazing

Location

The neighbourhood

This is the sort of rural Spain which tourists hardly ever see – the Costa Tropical – and you're in a protected valley brimming with wildlife. The nearest place to eat is Bar Piedra and the food is exceptional according to the owners. The pretty town of Almuñécar is 7km for shops, restaurants, marina, interesting old town and plenty of beachside chiringuitos selling fresh fish and seafood.

Local points of interest from Leo Rietveld

  • Nearby Almuñécar is much more than just a beach resort. Remains of three millennia of history can still be seen today. Wander through the narrow streets of the inner city and stumble on Phoenician, Roman, Moorish and Christian heritage.
  • The Costa Tropical offers a wide variety of beaches, from the well equipped citybeaches in Almuñécar and La Herradura to the much calmer coves a bit further away. We recommend the beaches of Cantarijan (also for naturists) and El Cañuelo.
  • In the summertime El Majuelo park in Almuñécar is the place to go for perfomances of famous flamenco stars, or international acclaimed musicians at the annual jazz festival. Local musicians perform at Plaza del Sexi in front of an roman aqueduct
  • For sports enthousiast the area offers plenty of hiking opportunities, some of them directy from our B&B. Nearby La Herradura is famous for diving and snorkeling. Other sporting activities include (mounain)biking, parapenting, canyoning and golf.
  • We especially recommend a visit to the gorge of the Rio Verde, near the village of Otívar. Here you can hike, enjoy crystal clear pools and admire beautiful waterfalls in a breathtaking surrounding. Don't forget to bring your swimwear!
  • Other interesting places nearby are the popular beach resort Nerja and beautiful whitewashed villages Salobreña and Figriliana. A bit further away, but still suitable day trips, are Granada, with the impressive Alhambra, and dynamic Malaga.

Introducing

Leo Rietveld

Sandra and Leo, both from Amsterdam, have been at El Oasis since 2019 and thoroughly enjoy welcoming guests to their special place. They are both charming, will be there to greet you and even drive out to the main road to guide you in if you're arriving in the dark. They have two large and friendly tabby cats, Chico and Siam.
